It is possible to get a military ID card without a SSN (I got one for Marlene before she had an SSN). But, Tricare (the military health care plan) will only cover a dependent for an initial 90 days without a SSN. In this case, the OP needs the SSN to qualify his children for health care. The EAD is the only route to do that before they get their LPR cards. The price of an EAD is well worth the ability to be covered for health care.

Yes, that is why I said I needed it for the military ID's and also for Tricare. The base only gave my wife and the girls ID cards for 90 days and said I need to get SSN's.

Just curios. I can see on your timeline that you have recieved a SSN number before filing for AOS. How is that possible?

My wife came here under a K-1 visa. We went to the SSA Office with her visa, passport, I-94, and the application form for a SSN. I posted a bunch of info about SSN's about a week ago on here in the AOS forum. Please check it out.

They are 8 and 10 ... Have them sign the block--or print if need be... and then you can sign above it "For <name of child> <your signature>"

Thanks. I redid the form last night and had them sign and I signed as the person preparing the form. Do you think me or thier mother needs to sign in the block above their name? Also, USCIS returned the checks with the package. Do I need to write new checks or do you think the old ones are ok.

I would have her sign in the block above thier names. If it's not needed, it won't be rejected for being there with the "For" caveat. If it is needed, it will be there.

If the checks have been stamped in any way, I would write new ones to avoid confusion in processing.
