She needs a valid  I-551.  Not a travel document. Those are for stateless and asylees.

Look at her green card. There are two dates:

* “resident since”

* expiration

Compare these two dates:

* 2 years apart: she needs to file I-751 along with a reason for why she filed late.  She will get back a letter that extends her green card by two years from the expiry  date.

^ 10 or more years apart: she needs to file I-90. She will get back a letter that extends her green card one year from the expiry date.

If these extension letters extend her green card to a date that is before her planned return to the USA then she needs to  call USCIS, say “info pass” and request an I-551 stamp.  She will not get a stamp until she files I-551 or I-90 as appropriate (unless she has a pending N-400 and was pending 6 or more months before her green card expired).

If she needed to file I-751 and leaves the USA without filing I-751, then there is a good chance she will be stranded and unable to enter the USA. It is not likely the embassy will help her.

Yes, the extension letter she received when she submitted the i751. Make sure the date is still valid.

Yes. As long as it’s not expired. That’s why I said “check the dates”. You also need to take the expired green card and the passport.

It’s really unclear what your situation is because you haven’t completed your timeline…

We need to travel to Cambodia sometime in Jan 2023.  My wife green card has expired and we already reapplied for the extension.  We also thinking to apply for Travel Document (green passport) but don't know for sure if we need to have our Cambodian passport to go along with it ? I believed that the U.S travel document is for Re-entry into U.S but not work as a U.S passport to go to other country.  Can someone verify?  Thanks

What is a Greencard Passport? This document don’t exist. You need your passport for travel internationally, ALWAYS, doesn’t matter if you are or not a legal resident in another country.

How long is she planning to stay in Cambodia? No point in applying for a Rentry Permit (what you are referring to as the travel document) if going out for just a few months. She will be back to the US before it is even issued.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Thanks.  I have never heard it called that.  It isn't what I think of as a travel document or passport.
