Hello, when you have a joint sponsor are the required to meet the income requirement for just the size of their household? Or do they have to meet the income requirement for their household plus the primary sponsor and the immigrants household as well?

Their household + the intending immigrant only (not the household — so wouldn’t include you and kids for example).

Okay thank you

I submitted all my documents to NVC for myself and my joint sponsor. For my joint sponsor I submitted the following:

-passport

-I-864 form

- tax return/transcript

-pay stub

- proof of domicile

- w2s

is that everything?

Hello everyone. I submitted my joint sponsors full complete tax return from 2021 because he that is all he had at the moment. He is working on getting his tax transcript so I can upload that as well. If he runs into an issue and can’t get access to his tax transcript will the return be fine? I’ve read that the NVC prefers the tax transcript but will accept the tax return if that’s all you have

You read correctly, complete tax returns are acceptable.

Okay good. Because I was scared that maybe I would get an RFE for submitting the tax return and not the tax transcript

Hello. My joint sponsor files his taxes “married filing jointly” but his spouse does not work. I  do not need to include anything for his spouse when submitting my stuff to NVC then correct? I just want to make sure I did everything correctly

Okay I apologize. Was not aware on how to gain access to the thread I already had created previously. So can anyone answer the question I asked in the post listed?

I just want to make sure I am doing everything correctly before the NVC reviews my documents. My joint sponsor filed taxes “married filing jointly “ but his wife doesn’t not work and does not have any income. My question is so I do not have to submit any documents for her since the only income I am using is his correct?

Quoting @Chancy and something they’ve taught me recently is that it depends on the IO. While technically not required, officer might ask to see a signed i864A from the spouse , to make sure they are ok with the sponsor using their joint assets to help the intending immigrant.

So if I get DQ should I get my joint sponsors spouse to sign an I-864A to take to the interview just in case?

Yep. No need to offer it if IO doesn't ask for it, but better be prepared than get an RFE or a denial.

Correct.  The OP is reading USCIS instructions, but it is a Consular Officer (Dept. of State, not Homeland Security) that will make the decision.  Not "several cases" but NOW, nearly all cases with a joint tax filing spouse, the officers ask for the I-864a.  Provide it now or face potential visa issue delays.

So once I get DQ by NVC should I get my joint sponsors spouse to fill out and sign an I-864A form to take to my husbands interview to show them?
