Why is it always the people who know how to spell things correctly who are in these threads? Well, except for the deja vu thing, which I won't bring up....

I don't know Jenn - I seem to remember this very discussion with you months ago where I misused "loose" and "lose" I recall getting a proper lashing for it as well

Pet Peeve: "lose" vs. "loose"

"Lose" (pronounced looz) is a verb and means "to be deprived of, no longer have" as in "to lose a connection", i.e., the connection was lost or dropped.

"Loose" (pronounced loos) is most frequently an adjective meaning "detached, not tied together or relaxed"; sometimes it is a verb meaning "to set free or release" - "the ropes were loosed". You do not typically "loose" a connection, but if you do, it means you actively untied it or set it free.

Which is probably not what is meant when a server no longer can communicate with another server.

See now you are a perfect example of what one should do after encountering a thread or conversation such as this one - remember it! I haven't had to reprimand you since. :P

I'll gladly admit I'm a terrible speller -

At least i'm in good company with my ineptness at grammar and writing!!

Edison: Had a learning disability. He couldn't read until he was twelve years old and had a very difficult time writing even when he was older.

George Washington: Had a learning disability. He could barely write and had very poor grammar skills.

Woodrow Wilson: U.S. President from 1913-1921. Had a learning disability -- was severely dyslexic.

The one that drives me absolutely crazy is when people don't know when to use the words THEN and THAN. They always write things like "I like this one better THEN that one". It's THAN!!!

I also had a boss who used to write SECONDAIRY instead of SECONDARY. Moron! :jest:

A few others that drive me nuts:

your vs you're

congraDulations (instead of congratulations)

Advice vs advise i.e: "I need some advise"

Or when somebody says "I seen" instead of "I saw"

"We are the real countries,

Not the boundaries drawn on maps,

With the names of powerful men.

That's all I've wanted -

To walk in such a place with you,

On an earth without maps."

'To' and 'too' get mixed up quite a bit...

Along with 'there', 'their' and 'they're'

I never know whether it's supposed to be 'aswell' or 'as well' and where are you supposed to put the comma after a quotation mark? Before or after?

Other than that, my grammar isn't all that bad.
