I'm actually always fascinated about meeting people of different cultures and backgrounds anyways......

But, my heritage is English, Swedish, Irish, Scottish, and Native American Indian (Cherokee)....yes, I know..a mixture..lol I've always been fascinated by British culture...I've had many British friends even prior to my fiance and myself getting together. I loved being in the UK... I think the grass is so much more greener than here...and actually, it's a different green I think..lol My fiance's family was fantastic towards me...and made me feel right at home. Only thing I still question and was confused about...was...a comment a guy made while we were on a canal boat ride in Skipton. He was talking..and I hadn't even opened my gob yet...he said something in reference to where something was...and asked if we knew where it was...I said, I'm sorry..I don't know where owt is..I'm from the US. He tapped my shoulder...almost sympathetically...and said...yes, hun...I know, I've guessed that already. ????? I'm still confused by his statement....I was like...How'd you know? lol Oh well...

Pete is getting tired of the Preston area....and is looking forward to a change...he isn't bothered where he's at...as long as it's with me..lol (awwww) He is looking forward to it not raining all the time....but what he doesn't know...is ....Ohio's weather changes like England's..lol... He hasn't been here when we've had tons of snow...and below freezing weather....But..he also hasn't been here in the summer either when it gets up around 100 degrees Farenheit..and is humid....lol He loves the super Wal-Mart, the tools at Sears, and Burger Kings..lol

I would not move there now, because of my 2 young children. My son has epilepsy and is in special needs programs at school. I told Pete tho, when they are older, it isn't out of the question. But I imagine, he may get spoiled here.

We are both Indian although he was raised in India and I was raised in the US. Multiple trips to India as a kid, and even more as an adult. I can't imagine being with someone and not really understanding their culture or their background. It floors me sometimes that people have only been to their SO countries once (and for maybe 1 or 2 weeks). As someone said, that is not enough time to really "know" a country. And I think you need to know where someone came from to know where they are going (cliche, I know). And once you start having children, I think they really need to understand where it is they come from.

I don't really disagree with you, but from the other side of things, many of our SO's could not get tourist visas to come to the US before even moving here on a visa. So if they never were here in the US and couldn't completely understand everything because of that, it's not really their fault. It's not just about Americans going to other countries, the issue should also be if people from other countries can understand American culture before moving here. No one is going to completely understand the background of a place they did not grow up in, but they will learn more over time.

As for some people only being in their SO's country once, sometimes you can't control that and have to take what you can get. I think it's fun having a spouse from a different culture. I have always been interested in other cultures so I don't feel like it was bad that I was only in India 2 weeks. I would have liked to go there more in order to see my then fiance. My husband was never in the US before moving here, but we seem to be doing fine for almost 3 years of marriage so far.

And we are about to have a child, and I don't feel any awkwardness about them learning about both of our cultures.

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)

I have a great connection with Liberia. I have a lot of Liberian friends and I absolutely loved the place while I was there. I love the food and their way of life. I wish I could live there, but unfortunately, the opportunities to move forward in life aren't available. Also, the education sucks and my kids would miss out on so much. Hopefully, within the next 10 to 15 years things will be a lot more stable there and we will look at moving there.

Love Brazil, everything about Brazil. Except taking cold showers at her house there, but I got used to that too. Everyone says that I blend in good. Val says I even sound Brasilian when I speak Portuguese now. Although when she speaks to fast, I cannot understand very well.

Would love to live there when my daughters are out of school and on their own, and hopefully can find a job there.

I've never been anywhere that I had to take cold showers. And I've been to a LOT of places. Where does she live?

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Val lived in the city of Salvador and the area is one of the poorer parts of the city called Piraja. Although most places that I had been to in Brazil had the little hot water heaters installed, her house and most in her area just had cold water.
