How much time have you spent there? Do you connect with it? Love it? Hate it?

I've spent quite a long time in the UK. Loved the UK, but it's nowhere near the US in my heart.

My hubby's spent probably equivalent to 3 weeks in my country.. He loves Canada, but doesn't understand a lot about why we do what we do the way we do, but he really does love the country.. There is a difference of opinion between he & I particularly in the role of government in the people's lives..

I of course moved here.. i'll give ya my opinion when i've lived here a year :) tee hee!

I like PR, what I don't like here is the lack of opportunities for young people.

Luis LOVES Brazil, loves the culture, the music, the sport, the food, he absolutely loves it. If we had the means economically to live there, we'd be there and not here.

I love Alex and Kafr Dawar, Egypt...in winter. Absolutely love it! I find myself missing it a lot now. I miss my family's home there and the neighborhood.

I hate Cairo, though. This place is nearly hell on Earth esp. in summer.

Forgot to add...I spent a month and a half total there.

The US is home but Kafr Dawar/Alex is a close second.

OH went to school in the UK eons ago when he was a kid. Then he taught there on and off for 10 years. He loves it, but hates how expensive it is. He's gonna take early retirement soon and teach part time. We plan to live back there, or at least somewhere in Europe in the next few years.

In general, I like the environment in the Netherlands. I never felt scared walking on dark streets and I never felt as if every passing car was going to try to hit me like I do in downtown Chicago. Unfortunately, where I visited was not really a touristy area, thus there wasn't much help for people who didn't understand the language. Only one restaurant had an English menu and it was a fraction of the actual menu. The people, especially my husband's immediate family, were very judgemental people. They make fun of people who are overweight (like myself) and didn't seem to really respect the work I do or that I could be a successful individual and still love their son. I suppose that's just a family reaction situation more than anything else, but it left me with a bad impression. However, even when we were lost in Amsterdam, we were able to find friendly people willing to help us figure out where we were going.

So... I liked the country, and the people were friendly, but the Limburg province wasn't a very good place for a visitor who doesn't understand the language, and the immediate family of my husband left me feeling a little uncomfortable.

I've never been to Algeria, unfortunately. My husband and I met in a third country, which we both think of as our second (and in his case third) home.

I'm trying to get as involved as I can with Algerian culture so I can identify more with it. We watch Algerian movies, listen to Algerian music, etc., and I am really interested in everything I've seen so far. We also knew lots of Algerians in France when we lived there, and spent some time with his brother's family, etc., so I got to know some of the customs before we were engaged.

We are planning to go on a visit next year, so I'm sure I'll have a whole new appreciation for it then.
