Hi all I'm in the process of filing my AOS and it requires a U.S. Civil Surgeon to sign an I-693A vaccination supplement.

There are 2 Civil Surgeons here in Spokane on the USCIS list.

Lorry called and the first one said they don't sign that form only do the physical examination.

The 2nd one said before they'll sign off on the I-693A for AOS I'm to have a TB test and after 3 days when they check it and I pass then they'll sign the vaccination supplement for AOS cost would be $25 for signing. Didn't say what the test would cost

So much for paying for an X-ray in Canada to look for TB

Yeah, I know... do the TB test. It may or may not be required when they adjudicate your case. Information about the TB test being required is inconsistent about that for K1s and K3s. Some get told to get it at the interview, some don't. Not sure if any recent K1s & K3s have been RFE'd for that specifically through the MSC or CSC.

I'm erring on the side of caution and getting a stupid skin test done and results in hand prior to my interview.

Yeah he wants it done before he'll even consider signing off on the vaccination sheet. Maybe they've given notification

to the CS to do this before signing off

The TB test seems to be a recent development, x-ray reqired for visa, but Civil Surgeons seem to have been instructed to do a test for it.

Be thankful you did not run into a doctor who insists on doing the full medical even though not needed for K-visas.

If you are thinking about the BCG vaccine, forget about it already, it is not recognized in the US (or so I've been told) and it will make your TB skin test positive.

I think it should be fine if you have it done by your Dr, just get all kinds of proof to carry with you and present to the CS so he doesn't make you do it again.

I don't think you can easily get the BCG vaccine.

http://www.cdc.gov/tb/pubs/tbfactsheets/BCG.htm

However, BCG is not generally recommended for use in the United States because of the low risk of infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the variable effectiveness of the vaccine against adult pulmonary TB, and the vaccine’s potential interference with tuberculin skin test reactivity. The BCG vaccine should be considered only for very select persons who meet specific criteria and in consultation with a TB expert.

Not sure about getting your skin test though. I'm just going to call the civil surgeon to do it. I believe USCIS will only accept results from a civil surgeon so not sure if you can get it done elsewhere and then transcribed by a civil surgeon. Call up a few to find out though.
