Montreal embassy EB-2 interview wait time-Part 2

This morning my wife (who is part of the EB2 visa application as a derivative) crossed the land border from Sonora, Mexico to Arizona. The CO said he could see her visa on the system and asked about it. We were DQed in late January 2023. It seems like the in person interviews are mostly a formality and that makes the wait even more tiresome. The CO said we should expect something soon but I doubt he would have any info since the delay is due to Montreal not prioritizing EB interviews.

Folks anyone who received IL in April, could you please update and provide some ray of hope. Montreal seems to disappoint time and again. I simply fail to understand the deal with Montreal not prioritizing to reduce the EB backlog. Jan 2021 vs Jan 2023 is just not fare to EB.

By looking at the Montreal EB visas google sheet, most of the people who DQ'ed in 2021 are EB2 and we are still waiting for ILs. The only person who has EB1 is DQ'ed on Jan 24, 2023.

My feeling is that nobody on this forum got their IL in either April or May...

@newbie75 @ACC24 when my wife and I did our landing at YVR airport, the first officer took pictures but the second officer who did the actual processing didn't do any biometrics, no finger-printing, nothing. At least, he opened our sealed envelopes, processed them and kept the contents. Finally, I asked him about fingerprints but he simply said, "nope not needed, you will get your greencards". 🙄

@NewbieMy husband activated his US Immigrant visa via land at Lynden Port of Entry. Officers did not take his photograph nor biometrics which my  husband realized later so we were also worried if his card will be delayed. But happy to let you know that we got notified that his US Green card is mailed and on the way. So you should be good as well.

Hi everyone, my EB2NIW visa was approved. I am Brazilian/Canadian and live in Vancouver BC. I would like to know if you think it is risky if I change my case to Rio de Janeiro/Brazil consulate. I think it will be much faster if I transfer there but I am afraid to cause delays and the risk to they have my case lost in the middle of the way. Thoughts?

I guess if you already have biometrics from the recent past when you have crossed to US and it matches, they might not do it again. By the way, we received our physical/plastic Greencards!

Do it! Absolutely worth it. I only regret that we didn’t transfer our case earlier from Montreal. It’s super easy. You Just have to send NVC your Brazilian passport and ask to transfer through inquiry form. Your case is in NVC, so it won’t get lost. I’d be more worried for waiting for the interview in Montreal.

I just checked the website for covid vaccine requirements:

As of April 21, 2023, a single dose of Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine, Bivalent meets the vaccine requirement of these Technical Instructions for applicants 6 years old or older and a single dose of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine, Bivalent meets the requirements for applicants 5 years old or older. Although the monovalent Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines are no longer authorized for use in the United States, these vaccines are still approved under these Technical Instructions because they are listed for emergency use by the World Health Organization and continue to require 2 or 3 doses (depending on age) to complete the requirement. Instructions for other vaccine formulations have not changed.

Thank you very much for your response. I will do it. I am waiting for my Welcome letter from NVC so I will ask it as soon as I have the new case number.

You may need to move to Brazil.  You are a citizen, but not a resident, so they may or may not honor the change.

By far montreal is the worst place to have your IV processed from. They are very slow plus the number of AP’s issued by Montreal is just too high. Try your best to get this done from Brazil

@JustHopeful Thank you, indeed its a big relief to finally come to the end of this journey. It took less than a month from the day we crossed the border to activate the immigrant visa until receiving the physical GC.
