https://www.alberta.ca/ahcip-absence-from-alberta.aspx - In Alberta sounds like we have to contact them to let them know you are moving.

To play devil's advocate, what would be the incentive for doing so? On the other hand, I can think of plenty of reasons to avoid doing so.

What's the most cost effective way of shipping personal items from Canada to USA through one of the reliable companies? Canada Post?

Other than driving it myself of course...

Depends where you are located and how much stuff you need to ship.

UPack I believe it’s called was the most cost efficient for us, until we found out they have no containers near Alberta.

PODS was pretty pricey and the guesstimate of when our stuff would arrive was 3-6 weeks after it left the facility. Basically it would get there when it gets there type thing.

North American Van Lines ended up being the best option for us. Yes it was more than PODS, but I didn’t have to load the truck, they are storing our stuff until we move south, they took care of the packing lists, tagging every item, and helped me prepare the customs documents. Our quote is around $10k USD for 8,000 lbs, which was only $2k more than PODS. 2-3 week delivery time from date it leaves storage. The customer service has been outstanding!! Our weight in to storage was just about 6,000 lbs, so will be a bit less than quoted.

We moved in with family to take advantage of the hot housing market. So this is why this is all organized already for us.

I’m sure Canada Post would be expensive considering it’s $56 to send an envelope from Alberta to Quebec in 2 days.

Hello! Sounds like you got your O-1 approved and are in the process of moving down south?

Nope we sold our house to take advantage of the market, so I had to figure out what to do with our stuff. We are staying with family here in Alberta and our stuff is all in storage with the movers.

We filed a WOM. The sixty day count down is on.

Hello @3LabMom, when you say the 60days countdown is on, please can you just work me through the WoM process at a high level?

Regards

Regards

Here is a breakdown of what our WOM timeline has looked like:

Hired Hacking Law Firm

Law firm requested documents ( I-140 application,  I-140 approval notice from USCIS, NVC notices and documents).

E-mailed documents requested

Law firm sent draft document for review.

E-mailed two changes to draft

Lawsuit on file

Summonses issued and sent

Last defendant served (It took 39 days from hiring to this point)

60 days from last defendant served is the last day for defendants to provide answer to lawsuit.  In our case this will be mid December when the response is due.

I hope this helps.

What is your highest education? … and at the end he said “i am approving your application you will get your passport in 2 weeks.

Wish you guys good luck in your coming interview. Also Thank you everyone for sharing your experience so we all learned from it.

Hi Dip_eb, How long before you did your medicals before the interview date ?

Thanks for sharing. I am looking to ship around 15 medium to large boxes each between 15-20k. No furniture.

Got a quote from Fedex for approximately $2k, which seems a bit steep but still within reason. Haven't heard back from UPS nor Canada Post though.

Here is a thought -- you can check with a couple of moving/shipping companies and see if they can pelletize it, just like shipping regular goods. It's called LTL (less than a truck load) I believe. I did that once when moving within the States, not sure if that's an option moving cross the border.

Congrats @VA21202 and @Dip_eb !  We are going for our rescheduled interview Nov. 3 and I'd love to know how long it actually takes to get your passports back, once you receive them.

Awesome! So glad that you were able to get the rescheduled interview date soon enough! Status switched to issued the same day (for spouse next day) and got notification of being dispatched to courier today (so 2 days after). Will keep you posted when I actually receive it. All the best!
