We have our interview soon but there are some changes to our plans. My wife is a student and she finishes her studies next year as she is in maternity leave right now. So, the plan is to get the immigrant visa, go to US, stay there one-two months, get the green card and come back to Canada so she can finish her studies.

Will this change of plan cause any problem in the interview?

It's the same for my husband, he needs to finish something with his degree and will stay behind for around 1 to 1.5 year. So we are planning to go to the US for a couple of months upon issuance of the greencard and get him an i-131 Re-entry Permit just in case before he goes back to Canada to finish things up (but we won’t say that at the interview).

The expectation is you're moving to the US to be a permanent resident, not a part time resident. The re-entry permit is a good way to manage things.  That said, keep in mind how decisions will be taxed in both countries since you'll be required to file in both the US and Canada.  I highly recommend hiring a GOOD cross-border tax accountant to manage this and your Canadian exit taxes.

yes. It says Payment Received.

As @appleblossom said, after 90 days, send an inquiry.  We waited about 6 months before ours were sent.  Your endorsed I-551 in your passport serves as a temporary greencard for up to a year, so at least you have that!

So, I completed my interview yesterday (Jan 10, 2025) and as expected, I am not put in the Administrative Processing (perhaps due to both country of birth and field of work).

The whole process took 2.5 hours from start to finish. Everyone was nice.

The status shows "refused" now and I was asked to email my resume, list of publications, etc. (I have already completed the form DS-5535, which was sent to me along with my interview letter). Once they receive my email with resume, they will go ahead and submit the entire package for Administrative Processing. Then the endless wait begins :)

Good luck to you all!

Really sorry to hear this! Hope your AP gets clear asap! One question though, it’s pretty weird to see them requesting list of publications. Are you working in AI?

Perhaps if you provided them an updated resume during the interview, it could save some weeks. Nonetheless, NiW APs usually processed pretty fast so far i see. All the best!

Yeah I had my updated resume with me during the interview. The officer reviewed it and asked some questions, and then gave it back and asked me to submit my softcopy resume via email so he could send for AP.

Sorry to hear that. I have a question: do they want you to send them your resume, including a list of publications, or a copy of each publication as well, or just the list?

Hi everyone-

EB-3 here. I had my interview last week on January 10th, 2025. Everyone was friendly & very nice! The whole process took around 1.5 hrs for me.

I was told that I am documentarily complete & if all goes as planned, they should be able to process my visa this week. Does anybody know what to expect from here? My status is still showing as READY...

Thanks!
