My interview was during the first week of October. We arrived at 7:45 AM, and after about 10 minutes, we were allowed inside. After a security check, similar to what you experience at an airport, we took an elevator to the first level. At the security gate, they gave us two tickets with numbers on them. Our number was called, and a female officer asked for our documents. She was very kind, reassured us not to be stressed, and helped us relax.

After reviewing our documents, she directed us to another window for fingerprinting. Once the fingerprints were taken, we were called to another window for the main interview. The interview lasted about 20 minutes, and the officer was very nice and friendly. He asked me about my background, education, why I am considered of national interest, and other questions similar to what others have shared here. The process was very straightforward.

The officer mentioned that my case still required some additional processing but assured me they would try to resolve it as soon as possible.

Overall, my experience was positive. There’s no need to worry—they are very friendly. Just be honest, prepare your documents two weeks in advance, organize everything properly, and double-check to ensure all is in order. They mainly want to validate and verify the documents and the claims made in your petition.

I recommend arriving in Montreal at least one day before the interview, booking your return ticket for the day after, and staying in a hotel close to the interview location. And of course, enjoy beautiful Montreal while you're there!

Congrats and thanks for sharing! Did they ask anything about your plan of quitting Canadian job and moving to US?

What is a reasonable timeline to get passports back once approved? I know for september folks it took longer as they were out of visas. But in a normal circumstances can we expect the passports back in 2 weeks? Is it reasonable

They tell you 10 business days. So 2 weeks is about normal.

They say the ssn comes in two weeks. And the green card is up to 3 months. But they will both come if they were requested.

Hi @Froozion ... We got the IV stamped in Oct and are planning to cross the border in Niagara Falls in the 1st week of Jan.

Do officers specifically ask about the SSN which processing the application during the initial landing?

In my case I have SSN as I worked in US in the past but for my wife and son I selected that we need a new SSN for them in DS 260.

We are planning come back to Canada after the initial landing and taking GC status and do the permanent move some time in Feb/Mar.

So if they take care of the SSN during landing then I was hoping to avoid a trip to again apply at the SSN office in the US.

The border guards do not mention it at all. They just confirm the address in which you want your green card to go. (This will be the same address as the SSN).

If you have applied for the SSN on the ds260. Your SSN cards will already be delivered to the address of choice in your time frame if you are activating in Jan and crossing in Feb/march. It only takes a couple weeks to come.
