Quotes:

The US government is expected to hit the debt ceiling next Thursday, meaning that Congress must approve a raising of the $31.4 trillion limit.

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has written to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, saying that failure to raise the ceiling could cause “irreparable damage to the US economy.”

In the past, failure to come to an agreement has caused the government to shut down, including a protracted 35 day standoff surrounding President Trump's proposed US/Mexico border wall.

Can you please share the thread related to AP process/complications just to have an idea as what to anticipate in case :))

Its mostly stories of others in AP. Frankly, I've been unable to determine how one gets into AP and how it can be expedited. Pls share your ideas. Thanks.

AP can be neither waived nor expedited.

Common confusion of people, even Americans. The debt ceiling and the federal budget are two different things. The Federal budget is already passed before the Dems went out of power in December, and the government is funded until 9/30/2023. The debt ceiling is a stupid thing, where the congress needs to authorize the government a limit on how much money it can borrow, to pay for the things they have already spent money on, similar to the credit limit on your credit card, which you if you reach, you can't use  the card anymore.

Treasury is working on extraordinary measures to prolong the timeline of hitting the debt ceiling until about mid-June though. Hitting the debt ceiling WILL lead to the US Government to default on its debt for the first time in history, and a lot of institutions will book a massive loss all on the same day, that's why you see news articles spelling out a dooms day situation.

It will more than likely resolve itself in the next a couple of months though (could also be the famous last words lol).

Thanks for explaining this.  I was reading up on it today.  Still not something I am going to worry about yet.  Is it a possibility we get delayed another month or two, sure,  but we can't really predict when we are going to get an interview anyways.

Exactly! Worrying about the debt ceiling, is like worrying about nuclear Armageddon... If the US Government defaults on its debt, a large portion of the world economy is probably gonna get decimated, not something anyone can really do to prevent or avoid, why worry about it right?

Just to confirm, for canada we only need PCC from RCMP(finger prints) and there is no need from the local police. Is that correct understanding?

thanks in advance

Correct.

@DTCC Thats a great news! Congrats and Good Luck.

@akposphil: Did you also try reaching out to NVc?

Sorry guys for the long silence. So update on our case::
We were DQed Sept 2020 and have been waiting in line. Sometime last year we had a baby and decided to add him as a derivative dependent on her case.
Before adding him, we had reached out to NVC to understand implications but all we got back was generic responses. After adding him, NVC reached out to say our DQ date will regress and start afresh from November 2022 which didn't make any sense. We then decided to plead our case with Montreal and requested for expedited interview. Montreal saw reason and approved the expedited request and our case is now moved to Montreal and we should hear back on our appointment date soon since Montreal will directly schedule the interview.

@akposphilThats good news. BTE  How did you reach out to Montreal? We tried expediting once but was declined. Tried again but NVC responded saying " This case was de t to  Montreal earlier for expedite and was rejected". Did you also try via NVC expedite request?

We sent a mail to NVCEXPEDITE@STATE.GOV

We had also requested an expedited interview about a year ago and it was declined. We just did another one and it got approved this time.
