I made Salmon, rice and potatoes( like how his family makes it)

BUT..

he was sooo Tired he didnt eat any of it :(

I bought a few things for him that he likes - He loves American Style HoHo's :P

and Lindt chocolates

other than that I waited til he can see whats in the stores..

Hi Deemabrouk,

I am curious about how you made the salmon, rice and potatoes. What were the ingredients and instructions. My husband is from egypt although hes been here for 2 yrs (today) Ive never made him an egyptian dish on my own.

Also can someone tell me what is Molokhiya (i hope i spelled that correctly)

I'm told it is very very similar to okra. I agree 'cause last night I was remembering that I think I ate it, though I have to confirm with my sis inlaws. I think they used it to make mashi, i.e. the stuffed the rice mixture into it. It was good but a little gooey.

I made lasagna the second day he was here. We ate it for 3 days (I don't know how to make a little lasagna). :dead: I will not be cooking that again any time soon.

For his first night home I made very traditional Egyptian food (your favorite, molokhiya with chicken and rice). It was something I could make fast and easy before hand and warm up later. He was surprised and happy.

Buying some "comfort" foods for his first days is a good idea. That's what I did. I bought enough for a few days so we wouldn't have to go out. I knew he'd be tired for a couple days. Plus we had a lot of catching up to do. ;)

Other than that I had shaving stuff, deodorant, toothbrush and new cologne waiting for him. I didn't go nuts and I'm glad I didn't. I was gonna buy him a couple new shirts, underwear, socks, etc. but I didn't because I didn't want to take the fun of shopping away from him. That gave us an excuse to go to the mall. :)

yesterday he asked me in a shy voice, "can we go shopping when i get there?" so i asked him for what and he said for, "men's stuff: toothbrush, shaving, etc" i'm not sure if i'll buy it for him or we'll go together. i originally thought i'd buy it for him but then i thought he might like to pick the smells, etc. i have no clue what is a good male deodorant! haha

Well if you want him to pick his own stuff, but also at the same time you want him to have something to get by for the first day or night, you can just by the small travel toiletries. Buy him any cheap razor and body spray/deoderant, toothbrush . They have all this stuff in small mini travel sizes. They are cheap and in expensive. Walmart has a whole section of this stuff. This way you have something for him to groom himself for the first day or two. Im sure he will be tired from the long tirp and will not want to go straight to the store. Then when he is all rested a day or so latter you can take him shopping and he can pick his own stuff.

Oh yeah also..... maybe if hes dead beat from a long flight :

If you have a nice big bath tub maybe you can have a friend come over and fill the tub with nice warm water with maybe some rose petals, and some relaxing lavander oil. Just calculate the time it will take you to get back from the airport. That way you can tell your acomplice to go set the water a few min before you think you will arrive. Also why not maybe add some soft light candles around the bath. Spread a trail of rose petals from the tub to the bed and light a few mini tea candles in your room =0)

After you give him a nice rub down bubble bath he will be nice and fresh and relaxed. In the room maybe on your night stand you can have a small plate with some fruit. Of course you can be the main dish LOL, but on the plate you can set maybe some grapes and some chocolate dip strawberries. Also maybe you can have two gobblets to enojoy nice alcohol free wine if he does not drink or what ever drink you like.... How about that for some romance to go with ur "pink bag"

Just a though of ideas I keep dreaming of that I will do, but I will let you borrow this idea. jejejeje

ooooooooooh chocolate eggs! i decided i'm going to go with a few all american classics to give him an intro into our bakery items: chocolate chip cookies (i have the BEST recipe) and oatmeal raisin.

one of these days i'll do a classic american breakfast (but skip the bacon) and blueberry muffins and all that.

i'm also considering doing homemade ice cream sometime this week.

but for now, i looooooooooooove the dip sticks idea!!!! you're so sweet for letting me have ideas you've been cherishing for yourself. i really appreciate it! the bubblebath, rosepedals, candle light thing is purrrrrrfect! :D
