Washington — The FBI searched Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate as part of an investigation into whether he took classified records from the White House to his Florida residence, people familiar with the matter said Monday, a move that represents a dramatic and unprecedented escalation of law enforcement scrutiny of the former president.

Trump, disclosing the search in a lengthy statement, asserted that agents had opened up a safe at his home and described their work as an “unannounced raid” that he likened to “prosecutorial misconduct.”

"Thousands" here means two thousand, just wanted to point that out. Also he donated $500 to Jeb Bush so 🤷‍♀️And all of these donations were made when he was an attorney, not a judge -- the Obama donations were 14 years ago. Are lawyers never allowed to make donations because maybe, just maybe, some day they'll be a judge? 

 

I am very obviously not a lawyer but I don't know that it's actually relevant at all that this judge represented Jeffrey Epstein's employees at one point. What does that have to do with Trump? I read a little here (very briefly) and it looks like there were questions about a conflict of interest when he started representing the employees right after he was working as a US attorney, but that doesn't have to do with what is happening here. What is his conflict of interest here? 

 

There are so many lawyers that represent terrible people who aren't terrible people themselves. Terrible people have the right to an attorney, too. It doesn't necessarily make this judge a terrible person, just like making $2500 in political donations to Obama and Jeb Bush doesn't say much on its own. I know people in my own extended family who voted for Obama and then voted for Trump.

I would favor legislation keeping lawyers from making political donations due to any potential conflicts of interest.
