I have 2 cases (CR1 and IR2) documentary qualified on June 13th. Embassy is Colombo, Sri Lanka and they have no interview backlogs. No interview letter yet, so I sent an expedite request to NVC on July 28th.

1) How long would it take for the decision regarding expedite request?

2) When the U.S. embassy has no backlog,  is there reason NVC taking this long to schedule interviews?

3) Would contacting local Congressmen or Senator help at this juncture of the process?

The time for an interview letter pre-Covid was up to 3 months.  An expedite decision could take several weeks.  NVC cannot schedule an interview until the consulate has given then the available dates for the following month and only after your case is at the front of the queue. It is way too early to contact outside help, imo.  Patience is still the key.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

DQ'd  in June 2022

be patient

congressman can not help

it would seem from their post on US embassy site , they do have a backlog

The United States Embassy to Sri Lanka and Maldives is gradually resuming some immigrant and nonimmigrant visa services. We understand that many visa applicants have paid the nonimmigrant visa MRV fee and are still waiting to schedule a visa appointment. The U.S. Embassy will extend the validity of your payment until September 23, 2023, to allow all applicants who were unable to schedule a visa appointment as a result of the suspension of routine consular operations an opportunity to schedule and/or attend a visa appointment with the already paid fee. Please continue to monitor this site for information on when we will return to routine visa operations.

I did reach out the embassy at the end of June. They said there is no immigrant visa backlog, but they haven't received the case from NVC yet. Plus, the NVC case timeline site shows that the case is still at NVC. Per your note, it"s true that they have a non immigrant visa backlog. However, per my email exchange with the embassy, they specifically mentioned that there is no backlog for U.S. spouse cases. I will reach out the embassy again today. Thanks.

I feel your pain.  This is an agonizing process from start to finish.  My wife and I married in 2015, and we started our immigration journey in 2016.  We just entered the last leg (filing for citizenship) yesterday.  Sadly, it's a long road.  Good luck.

Thanks. The hardest part is that I see some cases with many other embassies like London, Frankfurt,  Hong Kong and even Nigeria getting interviews scheduled for July DQs; and my DQ is on June 13th. Given there is no backlog at my embassy, not sure why NVC is taking this long to send the case to Colombo and communicate on an interview date.

So very true—agonizing is a great descriptor. Until my husband and I started looking into the US immigration process, I was totally ignorant to the time and effort the beneficiary/petitioner have to go through and the frustration and anticipation that is endured. I am so looking forward to just getting over the first hurdle and getting I-130 approved! And still lots more to go after that.

embassy has to ask for cases so email them and ask for your case to be sent if they do say no back logs for immigrant cases

include case #, both names and both DOB's
