There can be abuse without living together. We as a couple were meeting on weekends, taking trips.

Of course.

But having lived with the alleged abuser is a requirement to self-petition for VAWA.

In this instance it would be considered a U visa and should have called the police and filed charges.

Does not seem OP would qualify for a U visa, either.

I got RFE saying that I need to prove residence and also extreme cruelty without co-living.

It appears from your post and replies that you do not have evidence of either of these.  Although you can try to respond to the RFE, with the expert advice and assistance of the best, most experienced attorney that you can find, I suggest that you don't get your hopes up, manage your expectations, and have a plan B ready if your case is denied for lack of documentation requested.  Sorry the marriage didn't work out.  Hopefully you can find happiness either in the US or back in your home country.

selling your house “back home” does not sound too weird though, I had to sell my house as well when I moved.

Nobody should be bullied or coerced to sell their home they acquired before marriage.

You have a difficult case ahead of you which is problematic on at least two levels. I wish you good luck, you will need it.

We only were together on weekends and vacations. How do I write my Story? My ex was a victim mentality and very dominating. Wanted me to sell my home back home and buy a home here, belittling me, etc

If you list here what exactly your wife told you or did to you for you to feel like you were subjected to violence, they you can get some good suggestions. What you have mentioned so far doesn't seem to be a violence but just your wife nagging (may be in a bit harsh tone) you  on what she wants you to do like selling the foreign house you said no and she pulled the plug. So wat did she actually say or do in a abusive or threatening way?

Agree about bullying/ coercion but then again, such conversations often have more content or context than the very brief summary we got here. (Though we did get a hint of possible context being the wife wanted a proper permanent home to move into and OP seemed to prefer a more temporary rental situation, one can see OP’s side but one can also certainly read between some lines there to see the other side)

Regardless - as others have mentioned, this doesn’t fly as abuse.

I agree. It's also possible that she sees his hanging onto his home in his country as a reluctance to make a true commitment here. I'm beginning to see what may be her side in this. OP needs better evidence of abuse than this.

So my wedding was was for few months but very toxic. My wife lived with her parents in Houston and I was in Dallas. She was yet to move here and we met on weekends. Her parents were very conservative and said we will move in after we have the religious wedding and the American legal wedding does not count. However, my Lawyer told me to write this and that we did not live together. I got RFE saying that I need to prove residence and also extreme cruelty without co-living. We only were together on weekends and vacations. How do I write my Story? My ex was a victim mentality and very dominating. Your attorney is a terrible attorney. The main thing with VAWA is to prove bonafide marriage, residence and abuse. Why did he tell you to write that she was living with you?.
