AP, EAD, Green Card is running later than others - Anything to Do?

Howdy folks, anything to do where our approvals are running later than others?  We had a move and updated USCIS, but other than that no RFEs or anything to cause delays.  It seems the timelines are all over the place . . . many in the same office around the same time still seem to be waiting . . . many have already received; we seem to have blown past the estimates.  Also, I followed similarly situated folks admitted on the K1 at about the same time (and from Mexico) and it seems their AP, EAD, GC came through already.  Anyway, I assume we just wait, but if there is a number to call or something to do at our end please fill me in!

every case are different. even though its similar case, file in the same time, from the same home country. in the same FO, many2 people got approval in different time.

there's no "FIXED" answers for this. i can confirm that, because im the unlucky one. people got approved 12 months or less, and i got approved after 19 months. complained to USCIS wont do much, because obviously when we called we cant say " other people on the same time, same country, same situation got approved, why mine's not?"

nothing u can do if ur case is still within processing time.

if ur case is outside processing time, u can call uscis or do e-inquiry

my 2 cents : long battle ahead, save ur energy and stop comparing ur case to other.

A lot of people have success getting an EAD expedite with a valid job offer, so you could try that. It’s not the route I took personally, but there are many many success stories in the AoS forums from people who took this approach.

This is also solid advice.

Ah, thanks.  The beneficiary (wife) recently gave birth, so we have not been soliciting job offers.  The pressing worry is for the AP to visit her family and the SSN (hers got jammed up in manual review between USCIS and SS) to get bank accounts and what-not.  Anyway, thanks for the input and ideas.

Ah, understandable, and I sympathise with you guys. The USCIS website suggests that 80% of AP is done in 10.5 months, so hopefully you get some good news this month! ☺️

As for the SSN, this is such a horrible pitfall that so many people are trapped in through no fault of their own. The only additional thing I can say is that many banks will give bank accounts to people without SSN - this is how I got my bank account originally, you just have to shop around a little.

Good luck and keeping my fingers crossed for you 🤞

Ps you can chat to EMMA to ask if the AoS has been recommended for interview. It doesn’t make any difference (as in you can’t speed anything up this way), but it could help your sanity to know if the case is still being looked at or if it is just waiting for an interview slot to come up at the local FO.

I agree. It doesn't hurt to ask. It won't make a difference, but it can be reassuring to know that your case is proceeding. It's even reassuring to know that they've heard of your case! I got impatient while my husband was waiting for his NOA2. Others with similar timelines already had interviews scheduled and we didn't. We weren't even very much behind, but it was disconcerting to me. So I called. The person I spoke with was very reassuring and it did help.

You can check I765, I131 and I485 timelines on the processing times website.

They fluctuate often so you'll have to keep monitoring them.

Both I765 and I131 are processed at the National Benefits Center (so you'll select that on the drop down menu when you check). I765 and I131 have separate timelines however they will usually come as a Combo Card, provided you filed them at the same time and provided you didn't expedite either of them. So because they are separate, you'll be expecting your Combo Card to take the longer of the two timelines.

I485 is previewed for completeness at the National Benefits Center but is transferred to your local field office to await your interview so you'll select your local field office on the website.

Don't know which one is your local field office to check your I485? No, it has nothing to do with where you did biometrics.

Scroll to the bottom HERE and enter your zip code as your local field office determination is based on zip code not city.

The Estimated Processing Times website is THE most important website you will ever need for your process. LEARNING how to use it is important.

Save it and you can monitor your estimated processing timelines up until you become a citizen:

Thanks so much.  This is embarrassing.  I did not check the web site today; but it turns out the EAD was approved today.  Oddly, I then checked on MY.USCIS.GOV and, for the AP, it lists the I-131 as "Case Closed" (see below).  Any idea what that means?  I am looking around the forums now for any insight.

I see.  even more embarrassed; I think the EAD approval is a joint approval.  Only the EAD is listed as approved, but according to the MY USCIS pdf, it is joint approval.

That’ll be why they closed the AP.

More importantly…CONGRATULATIONS!

Would also recommend getting a Case Tracker app. No more pesky checking the USCIS website and instead push notifications with good news 😃

Most people ( not all ) get a 'ready to schedule' update when their AOS file moves from one pile at the NBC to another pile at the field office. Doesn't mean much but at least gives an idea where your file is and if you get closer to the end.

Right, thanks.  I made the mistake of assuming that the my.uscis account would auto-generate an email notification once the status changed. Not sure why I thought that. Anyway, lesson learned.
