Hi everyone.

I am going for my spouse visa interview on Monday - 5 days away, and I just realised that the birth certificate I have is not the unabridged one - it is a computer printed one, and has all my details, but not my parents' names. Will this be a huge problem? I have read in some places that the unabridged birth certificate only applies to people under 21 years. I am older than this. Any advice, anyone? I am feeling desperate here.

Thanks in advance!

The full unabridged version is necessary for the interview.

Hopefully they'll process everything else at the consulate and wait until you can present the birth certificate at a later time for your visa. :)

i just applied for an unabridged birth certificate last week. i was told it should take approx 6 weeks, but i'm going to follow up on it and pester them to get it sooner. a friend of mine applied for a fiance visa earlier this year, she managed to get her unabridged birth certificate in 10 days by calling them every day. here are the details she gave me:

Apply at your local Home Affairs office (it costs R50), or in Pretoria if you can. When you apply, specify that you need it urgently to the person behind the desk! Once this is done, call home affairs in Pretoria every day. You will be put on hold a lot, but be persistent!

Dept of Home Affairs: Pretoria

012 - 810 6459 (speak to Lucas)

012 - 810 8441 (speak to Morris)

or try these numbers 012 - 810 8605/8656

I hope that this helps! and all the best for your interview!

I don't know how it works in other countries. But in my homecountry I can just go to the church office I belong to and get a birthday certificat. Takes about 5 days to get it
