Hi from the Philippines. Can my fiance starts to petition me even before meeting in person? We just talk on the phone everyday, my friends, family know him in person, but I havent met him yet, he plans to come soon in my country and we wonder if he can file for K1 fiancee visa before we meet in person so when he comes here and leaves for US, he can bring me with him?

Thanks a lot!

Unfortunately, one of the requirements they will ask for in the petition is that you have personally met. This must be accomplished before the petition can be filed as your sweetheart will have to show proof in filing the petition of this meeting. This will be in the form of pictures of you both together, travel receipts, etc.

If you haven't learned by reading this forum yet....when dealing with immigration, patience is a virtue.

Actually, both of you still need to meet in person before your fiance will file his petition because one of the requirements that need to be included in your fiance's petition are pictures that you met in person....meeting in person is also a proof of on going relationship.

The best evidence is things like passport stamps and boarding passes. Photographs are good secondary evidence to back up the main evidence. If the photo's also include other family member then that is even better.

Asianbeauty,

Unfortunately the answer is no (there re some exceptions, but most folks don't qualify), your fiance can not star the petition. He (nd you) can however begin reading up on the requirements, all the other helpful information you'll find here on VJ, and start putting together your plan for the interview etc.

USCIS requires proof that you and your fiance met in person 24 months prior to the date the petition is filed.

Imagine someone reviewing the petition. S/he reads that you both met in person August 15, for example. After reading through the documents, s/he notes that the petition was filed September 30. Now factor in that the beneficiary lives in the Philippines. What do you think the response will be?

I don't quite get how you can even ask this question. For me, I have to meet a person. Communication is wonderful and all that; but to know if we are truly compatible I would have to spend lots of time with that person.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

No, no, no. Meeting August 15, 2007 and filing the petition September 30, 2007 is perfectly acceptable. You don't have to meet 24 months before you file. There is not a minimum time after meeting in person that you must wait to file the petition. You could prepare everything in advance and file the same day you first meet in person.

The requirement is that sometime within 24 months preceding the filing of the petition, you have met in person at least one time. If the only time you met was 24 months and a day (or longer) before the petition is mailed, you need to see each other in person again before you file the petition.

It is important to read carefully and comprehend all instructions. From the I-129F instructions.

Provide copies of evidence that you and yourfiancé(e) have personally met within the last two years;

"Within" is a keyword in the sentence above.

So I understand from what others has to say; my BF and I have to meet in person, period.

PS

YES, we are very compatible, my relatives know him in person, he is what he is saying on the phone. If you didnt know the answer to my Q, why mind other's business ha?, LOL, zip it.

Just make sure you meet in person at some point before filing, that way you can include a bunch of proof of meeting in person, like pictures of you together at various places.
