Hi guys,

Question to the ones who've already done the DS-230 step. I thought that the NVC was going to have a specific date of when the DS-230 was going to be generated, then I would put that date on the coversheet I created by using James' shortcuts and send it back to the NVC to move things along. Do I have to wait until I get it? That could take weeks!

Thanks everybody!!

Sorry I can't be of any help Diana. I can only go by what I see in Erica's timeline where the DS-230 was generated on a Monday (6/11). Unless they changed procedures I'd still gamble it was generated on a Monday.

I hope you get this mystery resolved soon. I'm waiting for my IV Bill to arrive now and then I'll be shortly behind you.

Hi,

I'm basically using James's shortcuts as well and I'm not sure which date etc you are referring to, I don't see that as part of the advice for the DS-230 - which part are you referring to? I'm looking at the word document cover sheet (barcode sheet) and I see no reference to a date.

From James's shortcuts:

"Once you do receive it and send in the fee, NVC will eventually generate the DS-230 -- the actual immigrant visa application itself. As soon as you find out that the DS-230 has been generated, you should send in the copy you already have prepared. "

Look at the cover sheet itself. Right on top off center to the right. There is a date. Generally, we would put the date the form was generated on there.

Ok well that is weird. I was using a different program to look at the coversheet, so I thought that might be it, so I opened it in Word - I still see no date on the coversheet....very strange....

I also see no mention in James's shortcuts about putting a date on the form or calling NVC to get a date, can you tell me where in the shortcuts that appears? Thanks.

This is what I am looking at: DS 230 Cover Sheet

WELL, I've called the NVC 3 different times, spoken to 3 different people and they've all said the same thing, which is: the DS-230 is not generated on a specific date and that they can only see that it was "supposed" to be mailed out the "week of". Is this true?? They've told me that the DS-230 was generated some time last week and that I should be getting the instructions for the DS-230 shortly but that there isn't a specific date of when it was generated.

Do I have to wait until I get it? That could take weeks!

Diana, I am sorry that I have not read your post until now. There is no date mention on DS 230 cover page with barcode. That is what, I remember. You should mail out your DS 230 packet as soon as possible, since you know it is already generated.

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview

Simple Male, that was true for your cover sheet. However the new version has a date.

In any case, should I run into the same issue as Diana, I will just put a date on it (Month/Year only and no day hehe). I believe the fact that it was generated and that the barcodes are correct should be the deciding factor and not the generation date. At least that's my take on it. It's what's attached that truly matters I think.

Yep, it's the date on the NEW coversheet that is throwing me off because the NVC won't give me a specific date on when it was generated. Actually, all they said is that the "instructions were going to be mailed out last week". That throws me off as well because they wouldn't guarrantee if they were mailed out or not. You see?

So that one date is making me wait for the DS-230 instructions to arrive. I think they changed the whole generating thing since they started sending out the instructions instead of the packet.

Thanks for replying everybody!!! VJers are the best!

Diana, all I know is that ours was generated on a monday like Vylex said. The automated message said so, with the date. We also got the letter with instructions to download the form (instead of the actual form) so they hadn't changed it then.

Maybe someone who got it right after me can shed some light on this total suckage of a situation.

I'm thinking it's a new of handling things. The automated message keeps saying that the NVC is missing info and it's the DS-230 they are waiting for, yet the message wasn't changed to say they had generated the DS-230 because they don't supply that date anymore.

I don't know, I'm so confused. I just hope that if they indeed mailed it out last week, then I should be getting it some time soon.

I'll be waitin' :clock:

I see that it is a new thing, they started putting date on DS 230 coversheet. I think, you will receive your DS 230 any day. As soon as you receive it, just mail your prepared DS 230 along with the coversheet. This is what I would do. Make sure, you take a note of the date. Maybe there is a trend that they generate it only on Monda/Tuesday. It may help others in future.
