Valid until you get the plastic replacement in hand. 

Yes. Travel freely as you wish. No problem. 

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

You can travel with it until the extension letter expires. Even if the card arrives while you are gone.  If the card is approved while you are gone, CBP might even give you an I-551 stamp (but expect to surrender your green card and extension letter).
