Married or Maiden Name

I am the us citizen female and want to know do I use my maiden name when filling out the AOS forms or my married name I dont want to screw things up. I WILL be going by my married name.

I used my maiden name since I filled out the papers for my husband only one day after we got married. I hadn't changed my name with the SS office or on my driver's license so I was still known as my maiden name only.

Afterwards I 'made it official' and now use my husband's surname.

I think that is a fine idea.

I used my new married name. All of my affidavidt supprt- pay stubs, IRS transcripts etc were in my madien name and we had no problems. I think the marriage certificate explains the name change.

If you are going to be taking your husband's surname, then you should start using it right after the wedding ceremony.

So, in other words, start using your new married name on all documents.

I used maiden name as well, because nothing was changed yet.

I didn't get my SSN changed for about three months after marriage and used my married name on AOS. It's not an issue, since we had to file the I-130 I put the maiden name in 'other names used' on the G-325 (is that the number? the biographical page), but even if you're filing from K1 and there's nowhere to put that, it's not an issue. I had my driver's license changed so when they asked for ID's the name would match.

Also, putting your married name on the forms is a way of 'changing your name' for immigration purposes going forward (even if you haven't yet changed your name on your SSN).

I did in my married name and so my GC will be in my married name. I only had to bring the marriage license to the biometrics to prove my marriage and the use of the right name.

For the rest I haven't had any problems using my married name. If you use your maiden name and later want everything in your married name, you have to chnage it all and that can be a hassle.

For me it worked out fine.
