It went well, i went in with him. I filled a CR1. And the US Consulate said that everything was okay but they had to refuse it because the DOS IN Washington DC stated it.

Was he told he would need to fill out a questionnaire detailing his travel history?

No he was not told to fill out a questionarie about his travel history. The US Consulate did not request any additional documents. He only told us that the DOS in Washington DC request them to put our case in administrative processing

There is no timeline for AP unfortunately. You might only have to wait a couple of days or you might have to wait several months. Hopefully you will receive an answer soon.

You just have to be patient.  Administrative Processing cannot be waived or expedited.  Good luck.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Male applicants from some countries (MENA and some African countries) are subject to AP.

As @Crazy Cat mentioned, AP cannot be waived or expedited and they are not even required to give any updates during the process.

Just be patient and wait for AP to clear.

Good luck

someone with a like name already applied for a US visa

its like the names smith and brown in the US

The VISA officer handed back my original documents and gave me a white form explaining my rights in America, however handed me a yellow slip stating my case had to be please understand administrative processing because of the DOS in Washington DC. No additional documents were required. How long will it take resolve.
