Delta vs AeroSvit

Hello all,

I want to hear some of your opinions about the airlines.

My finace is in Ukraine visiting his sick grandma. He went there before coming to the U.S. because we just never know when his AP will be approved and he might not have a chance to go there that soon so we thought going to Ukraine before coming here is the best choice.

He's coming to NY in mid september ( finally ) and we have a choice between Delta and AeroSvit and the difference is only SIX dollars.

Would you recommend him flying with AeroSvit or Delta?

Both of these flights are direct flights!

He's a bit worried that on Delta he won't be able to communicate with the crew if need to but I am pretty sure since it's a Kiev-NY flight that at least few of the crew members will speak Russian.

His english is very limited but I am sure he'll be OK in case he'll need to talk to the flight attendant. ( our mutual language is russian, so no problems between us )

So please, give me your thoughts on what would you preffer. Delta or AeroSvit.

I never flew to Kiev but I took Delta to Moscow and back eight times and never had any problems. They always had plenty of crew that spoke Russian so that was never a problem. Delta is my first choice, but that's probably because I have so many sky miles that half of my flights were free....

If you ask Delta, they might be able to tell you if they'll have Russian-speaking flight attendants on the plane. It is likely that they will.

Delta, no question. Business class if at all possible. (that's why we have frequent flier miles).

Of course, they always speak the local language on international flights.

Funny story - I used to be a regular on the NWA AMS->BOS and AMS->DTW route. The flight attendants usually look down at what you are reading and speak that language. On those routes, doesn't really matter if they speak English, since everyone in Holland does anyway. Ended up speaking Dutch with American flight attendants often.

From Russia, when I was reading a Russian newspaper, they spoke Russian. I guess they thought I was Russian, as they never changed to English. (My Russian sucks, for those who don't already know)

I have flown both. No problems with either. Delta probably has a better maintence schedule and the planes are just a tad cleaner. Both are part of the same Sky miles program so you can collect miles either way. I personally prefer Delta.

I have flown both too and would vote for Delta. All the attentants speak Russian and the flight announcements are in Russian and English, the movie is in Russian and many of the people flying as passangers speak Russian. Won't be a problem.

Both of them suck big time!!! Impolite crew, scary passengers, crappy service. But lesser evil is Delta, and yes, they speak the language so no worries there. Alcohol was $5 a drink last time I flew. My personal preference is FinnAir. You have to change planes in Helsinki, but the service is top-notch, the drinks are free and passengers are very polite. Besides, smoking is allowed in designated areas in Helsinki airport which is also nice.

delta has been giving us problems about one way tickets and said they might NOT let him board at all, so staying on the phone for hours and hours with them, for $46 extra we got him the round trip tickets!!!

no one knew what they were talking about and i didn't want to go through so much worry for the next 2 month over $46

anyone else with such experience?

Not anymore. They were marketing partners before Delta began competing service out of JFK last year.

i don't think they are all familiar with the K1 visa, that's why

honestly don't know, but for $46 it is not worth of an extra headache
