Oh my god, I totally forgot how scary this is! It's been years since I've seen it and wow! What a great film. Just coming to the "Here's Johnny!" moment!

I love scary movies, and this has got to be one of the tops. There are very few movies in the past 10 years that I rate in the scary movie stakes -- maybe The Ring and House of a Thousand Corpses -- that really hit the spot. For me it's all about the psychological messing with my head and the Shining, well, it messes just right. And it's got Scatman Crothers -- Hong Kong Phooey anyone?

I LOVED Scatman Crothers. I used to say that if I had an adoptive grandparent that I could choose - it'd be him. He was also in The Twiglet Zone movie playing a loveable character aswell.

But yes, The Shining is pretty good. The book was WAY too long IMO though. I enjoy Stephen King books but I could have removed 400 pages from that book and been happy. I know, sacrilege!

Like any other King book! I started reading King this year, and I adored IT and Christine, but so much could have been trimmed. Still havent read the Shining, but plan to. The boy is slowly moving his way through it in Spanish, as he is teaching himself now. He figures as a new immigrant it might be useful! Funny, as I am the one who is a quarter Mexican but can't speak a word... I suppose it says a lot about assimilation that, as my dad (whose first language is Spanish) never taught me a word of his mother tongue... :P

MAGS!?! :)

This was the first Stephen King book I'd ever read. Scared the bejeezus outta me. Course, I was about 13 when I read it ;-)

I used to have a parrot and some friends of mine taught him to say "redrum" in that freaky voice. B@stard bird. He knew it scared me and he

did it at night anyway....

Me too. Probably Stanley Kubrick's finest work.

Much easier than A Clockwork Orange, but I think it may be a tie. Let's not even mention Eyes Wide Shut... :P

Danny's not here anymore Mrs Torrance

Oooh, A Clockwork Orange totally freaked me out. But I've never read the book. My daughter has been begging me to let her watch the movie for almost a year now (she's 8...ain't gonna happen) b/c we love Die Toten Hosen and they have a song called "Hier Kommt Alex" inspired by the movie. (Or maybe it's on a soundtrack? I dunno).

There were some great moments in Eyes Wide Shut, the shop owner, the eeriness of the masked party, but I think Cruise's stage presence blitzed the overall mood of the film. Jack Nicholson, on the other hand, completely embodied the character - amazing performance.

I think I was about 12 when I saw it on video in the US and I did just fine -- I couldn't understand it at all! Seriously, 8 is a bit young for it. Maybe wait a few years?

Edit to say: Die Toten Hosen? 8? Your daughter is sooooo cool!

Well, IMO anything with Cruise (after Top Gun...guilty pleasure) blitzes due to his stage presence :) There's a whole to-do going on in Germany right now b/c he's slated to play a famous Nazi resistance leader in The Valkyries (spelled?) and the Germans have a huge problem with a Scientologist portraying one of their heroes.

Sorry, totally OT!!

Hee hee. I know. It's all my fiance's fault...she even knows all the words (in German) to "Alles Aus Liebe" much to the dismay of her father.

I think I'll def wait a few more years before I let her watch it. She got scared in Harry Potter 4.....
