Hello, I have a question about changing my name after submitting the I-130 paperwork with my husband.

We found out that I can change my last name for my husband's and I would like to do that.

I know we can wait for the naturalization certificate or the interview to obtain the green card, but I would prefer that I do it before all of that. So that I don't have to do any legal name changes and spend money on obtaining new copies of my documents, with the name change, later.

So my question is this: What are my options for changing my name?

thank you very much for your help!

As far as I understand, you will need to change your name in your passport in Colombia. When you get to NVC, you will update and use your new married name from then on, it shouldn’t be an issue. It’s actually much easier to have it changed now than deal with it once you’re in the US.
