I guess another bunch of mainstream destructive leftists doing feel good actions, but actually causing more problems (people will need to buy more tires I guess).  I also remember some telling us how intelligent these folks are, but in their message they are calling for massive investment in "free" public transportation.  Nothing that requires massive investment is in fact "free".  Idiots.  Maybe somebody needs to come up with a way to booby trap their tires/wheels.

Climate activists expand tire-slashing operation beyond NYC. Here are the cities they've hit

The website says they deflate tires and not slash them.

http://www.tyreextinguishers.com/how-to-deflate-an-suv-tyre

“To get the air out of the tyre, there must be something pushing down on the pin located in the center of the valve. Drop a small bean (we like green lentils, but you can experiment with couscous, bits of gravel, etc) inside the valve cap. Replace the cap, screwing it on with a few turns until you hear air hissing out. Even if it’s only hissing out a little bit, that’s enough - it will deflate slowly. The whole process should take about 10 seconds.”

Deflating  tires this way is however vandalism and dangerous, if

* the victim doesn’t notice the tire is deflated and drives on it, this permanent damaging tire and possibly the rim.

*  the bulk of the deflation happens while the vehicle is in motion thus creating blown out and potential fatal crash as the driver loses control of the vehicle

* the grit used to depress the pin becomes logged intent valve stem requiring a mechanic to replace the stem

Even if damage, injury, or death doesn’t result, CO2 will be emitted inflating the tire.  Both my vehicles have electric portable tire inflators that plug into the cigarette lighter socket of the car, and of it happened to me once, I’d ordering a 360 degree camera system for the car to record these cretins.

You are right, they are not advocating slashing the tires, but rather shoving some kind of bean into the schrader valve in the tire stem.  This though will make it difficult to re-inflate the tire with a portable compressor unless you can ensure all the bean is removed from the valve.  Heck, if I were doing it I would just use the valve cap with the slotted end to loosen the schrader valve.  I suppose someone will come up with locking valve caps at some point and this group will have to change their tactics.

Locking  caps are already available and have been for years.  So this movement will either quickly die or escalate to unambiguous vandalism.

Given Americans can now carry concealed weapons nation wide, this isn’t going to end well. After the first tire deflator is killed in action it will be interesting what the net public reaction is.

How about electrified caps?  I did find locking caps when I finally searched, but seems like most are simple hex set screws, not really locking.

If the hex screws are removable then I would look to replace  with a screw with a Torx head.  Most of these  basement dwellers have never encountered Torx fasteners.

If these eco terrorists have to start carrying a   tool box then I think they’ve lost.  Plus carrying burglar tools is illegal in some of not most jurisdictions.

I did think this was interesting.  These folks are all about no vehicles period.  I suspect they also want to pack everyone into mega-cities.

  • Hybrids and electric cars are fair game. We cannot electrify our way out of the climate crisis - there are not enough rare earth metals to replace everyone’s car and the mining of these metals causes suffering. Plus, the danger to other road users still stands, as does the air pollution (PM 2.5 pollution is still produced from tyres and brake pads).
