Job and Passport Changes

Hello, all.

My husband and I recently received word from the NVC that he has been approved for an interview. The process has taken so long for us that several changes have occurred in our lives as we wait. That leaves us with two questions as we prepare for next steps:

  1. Job Change for me (sponsor/petitioner): We submitted our paperwork to the NVC last fall, which means I used my 2020 W-2 for proof of income. I changed jobs about a month ago. Salary is almost exactly the same. Do we need to notify anyone of this change, mention in his interview, submit new paperwork, or otherwise? Or do we do nothing? Maybe it only matters if the process continues into 2023? (because my 'most recent' W-2, 2021, still reflects my old job)
  2. Passport Change for JP (beneficiary/applicant): My husband recently had to update his passport because it was about to expire. The number is different from the one provided in all past paperwork. Does he need to provide the updated passport to any agency? And if so, how/when should this be done? At the interview?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

you will need the tax transcripts for 2021 and  the I 864 should have the most recent tax year (2021)

u can include letter from new employer with current salary and copy of most recent pay stubs to show current income

originals of those to interview

passports expire  all the time and all he needs is current passport at interview

i would mention the passport # is different but this is no big deal

Yes but two notes.  The OP said they used their W2 as proof of income.  W2s are about past income.  A pay stub....OR...employer letter are evidence of "current income".  No need for both.  Either will do.

Thank you both for your advice here! Good to know. We will plan to have JP take a copy of my most recent pay stub to the interview. However, to be clear, do we need to update any forms in the NVC system? It seems not (if that is even possible), but let me know if so.

Thanks!

Hi, Pushbrk.

My husband and I are in the process of getting everything together for his interview on 9/28, and to be honest we are feeling stressed about some uncertainty around the I-864. I'm hoping you might be able to provide a little clarity for us.

  1. Per you and JeanneAdil's messages here, I'm going to fill out a new I-864 reflecting the most recent tax year and my new job for JP to take to his interview. I have also already provided him with my 2021 tax return. However, to be absolutely clear, I need to upload this new form to the NVC portal even though it's "case closed" on their end? I'm just terrified of messing something up since our previous documents have already been approved.
  2. I will print a paper copy of the updated form and sign with ink, but does JP need to have this exact, ink-signed copy in hand for the interview? In other words, will I need to fly it down to him or mail it to him? We are unsure of this, as everything we come across on government sites stress bringing original copies of these forms (without saying specifically which they mean), but we've also heard from several folks here on VJ that he would be fine to take a printed photo copy. We are very concerned about this variable.

Any advice you can offer would be much appreciated. I understand your opinion and contribution to the VJ community is quite revered, so hearing it from you might offer us some peace of mind.

Thanks so much, in advance.

Consulates don't need wet signatures anymore.  Question 1 I already answered.
