Hi guys,

Does anyone have experience with this situation? My husband, who is a green card holder, applied for my green card (F2A category) back in 2019. I recently got scheduled for an interview at the Montreal Consulate end of July, but during this time, I've given birth to our child.

What do I do now and how do I add my child to my application?

Many thanks for anyone that might have some insight on this. I'm surprised this isn't more of a common issue since the wait times are so long these days!

Best,

Lily

You should email the embassy requesting them to add your baby as a derivative and provide birth certificate, all details and documents regarding birth and bring your baby and documents to interview. The CO can add child to your case. If there’s an area on CEAC to add any birth certificate or other birth documents do that as well.

It is actually very common for family-preference visa cases.  That's why the question is in the CEAC FAQ --

How do I add a derivative family member to my case?

https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/step-1-submit-a-petition/step-2-begin-nvc-processing/ceac-faqs.html#ceac16

The CEAC button to add a derivative may be disabled if a case is already DQ-ed.  So you should still email the consulate anyway, as advised above.  They will enable the add button, or already add the derivative to your CEAC account.  You will still need to pay the IV fee, fill out the DS-260 form, and submit the required documents for your child's visa application.

Thank you for this! I'm in the situation where my case is already DQ-ed and with the consulate, so I no longer have access to the "add" button which made me feel like the CEAC FAQ was not helpful for my situation.

I've emailed the consulate with birth certificate and hope that they will enable that add button again. Somehow I feel so little confidence in the CEAC website.
