Marriage certified copy or not

Photocopy of the certified true copy is all you should send. I’ve seen a recent case where USCIS delayed the case because the applicant sent original vital documents.   USCIS burned resources making its own copy, notifying the applicant it would keep the originals, and then sending the original back.

So for your sake and for our sake, do not send originals.  Thanks.

Interesting. We sent an original with ours (they are very cheap in WI, provided you order them as part of the first order after marriage), and we had no problems.

In fact, when I went to the UPS store to make a copy of the entire package, they refused to copy the marriage certificate as it is a vital document and it says right on it that it is a felony to copy or reproduce.

USCIS and DoS routinely commit felonies then. Oh well. Good luck to the WI state police trying to arrest federal officers. The US marines and DHS law enforcement officers have vastly more fire power.

I mean I was more offering a suggestion as to why someone here under K-1 status, or possibly even out of status, may choose to send an original rather than a photocopy. Felony is a pretty scary word.

It’s certainly possible I’m wrong, but I doubt there is only one state which prints it right on the certificate.

So did we.   Our county sells certified copies for like $2, so we sent one of those.  No issues whatsoever.

I send an original with my 485, and copies for the 131 and 765. When we had out AOS interview I saw our original marriage certificate in the 3 inch thick folder as the IO was flipping thru the thing. Here in Nevada the original is pretty colorful and has all sorts of safety things to make it secure such as color shifting ink. heat sensitive paper, and when you copy it it shows a copy watermark on the copy. Had no issues.

Send whichever you want, both works fine. We sent a certified copy and brought another certified copy to the interview, just in case. No issues. We have several copies and can easily get more.

Send a copy and bring original to interview if IO needs to see it. I have an all in one printer so I can Scan, copy and Print copies. Serves you well when you want to make .pdf files to upload during N400 Process.
