I think it's things like this in life...and other life changing events....that show you who your true friends are. I know I've found that out since my divorce....the one friend that I thought was my closest dropped me. It wasn't appropriate for her to associate with a divorced woman...that being part of her christian principles.

As I posted earlier, the friends I have now are the most supportive...and the truest friends one can have. Not once has any of these friends judged me for meeting the love of my life on the computer. No negative comments, nothing negative at all. THAT is true friendship...being there for each other without question. Just my 2 cents worth... :)

Mary... Karen... you guys have it spot on...

Real love is unconditional... it hurts that I do not speak to my friend Tammi anymore... but, that is her choice... not mine...

Thankfully, my family and friends here where I live ARE very supportive... I am truly blessed in that sense...

I have only encountered one "tiny" incident with a co-worker... who said... "Why can't you marry an american LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE?" and also said... "With a name like Jamal... is he black?"

Geeeeeeeeeeeesh! Can she be any more blind? I actually stayed pretty calm that day... didn't lose my composure... but i felt like jack-slapping the ####### ouuta her... hehe

People are people no matter where they are from, right?

as the infamous jim says...

See, I was gettin some depeche mode vibes instead

I totally understand how you feel. Seems like I have had a lot of friends fall off the face of the earth since telling them I am marrying an arab man. Funny that you said that about your friend.....remember what I was telling you when I was there??? (About how I knew a friend would be calling me the closer the time came for Khallid coming here?) She called me and basically asked the same question your friend emailed you about. I really don't understand their thinking. I have told myself over and over again that I WILL NOT be this type of friend. I like what the one poster said his grandfather said. Good thing about this process, I have learned who my real friends are and that is a plus.

I've found a few of my "long time" friends have fallen away now that I'm in a relationship with an Aussie. They don't see the sense in bringing someone over from another country for marriage, and I've heard several times "There's plenty of women here in the US to choose from". I've found that a lot of my "new" friends, ones from work and school that I've met in the last 2 years are so have been nothing but supportive and encouraging, all the way up to the point of being in the wedding. One of my best friends is in sort of the same boat, being in a relationship with a Russian girl, so he's been my shoulder to cry on when the long distance stress is high. I'd have to say, though, having some of my old friends ditch me, or become distant over this has hurt, but it made me stronger in the part that I had to venture out there and find some new friends.

My grandpa told me once: You will know who your friends are when you need them.

Wise words

Yeah....people just dont get it....love just IS...and it doesnt recognize distance or culture. Which is really their loss...they're losing out on getting to know someone fantabulous, and they're losing out on a very good friend. :)

See, I was gettin some depeche mode vibes instead

YAY!.........

....

So we’re different colours

And we’re different creeds

And different people

Have different needs

It’s obvious you hate me

Though I’ve done nothing wrong

I’ve never even met you

So what could I have done

I can’t understand

What makes a man

Hate another man

Help me understand

People are people

So why should it be

You and I should get along so awfully

People are people

So why should it be

You and I should get along so awfully

Help me understand

Help me understand

Now you’re punching

And you’re kicking

And you’re shouting at me

And I’m relying on your common decency

So far it hasn’t surfaced

But I’m sure it exists

It just takes a while to travel

From your head to your fist (head to your fists)

I can’t understand what makes a man

Hate another man

Help me understand

People are people

So why should it be

You and I should get along so awfully

People are people

So why should it be

You and I should get along so awfully

I think this process is hellish no matter what culture one comes from. However, I do concede that maybe USC/Muslim couples do get a bit more judgmental attitudes than others. It's racist...it's bigotist...but it's something that not even world leaders have been able to break down.

I have lost quite a few so called friends since I met my fiance. Personally, in my heart I think it is because he is muslim and so many people are so ignorant about the Islam religion. Although I have lost friends, the relationship between my fiance and I is much stronger. Funny how we find out who are true friends are when certain situations arise.
