I think it's things like this in life...and other life changing events....that show you who your true friends are. I know I've found that out since my divorce....the one friend that I thought was my closest dropped me. It wasn't appropriate for her to associate with a divorced woman...that being part of her christian principles.

As I posted earlier, the friends I have now are the most supportive...and the truest friends one can have. Not once has any of these friends judged me for meeting the love of my life on the computer. No negative comments, nothing negative at all. THAT is true friendship...being there for each other without question. Just my 2 cents worth... :)

Mary... Karen... you guys have it spot on...

Real love is unconditional... it hurts that I do not speak to my friend Tammi anymore... but, that is her choice... not mine...

Thankfully, my family and friends here where I live ARE very supportive... I am truly blessed in that sense...

I have only encountered one "tiny" incident with a co-worker... who said... "Why can't you marry an american LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE?" and also said... "With a name like Jamal... is he black?"

Geeeeeeeeeeeesh! Can she be any more blind? I actually stayed pretty calm that day... didn't lose my composure... but i felt like jack-slapping the ####### ouuta her... hehe

Tho' lovers be lost, love shall not... and death shall have NO dominion!

I also lost alot of friends because my husband comes from Pakistan. It hurt in the beginning and then I realized that they were not friends if they could not support me now. If they had been friends they would of stood by me and not said awful comments and then disappeared. Hold your head up and remember you have to make your own happiness. Life is too short to please others and you be miserable.

Exactly! I lost a couple of friends in the process. Not quite sure about why but I have stopped worrying about it. Long ago.

My grandpa told me once: You will know who your friends are when you need them.

That's all I have to say about that.

My friends and family have all been very supportive of the relationship. For about a year before we made the decision to get married, a lot of them even suggested it. I live in the Boston area where many claim Irish heritage and love anything to do with it, so they are all intrigued by James and his accent! I know my mom has heard a few comments at work (I used to work with her) from people who are genuinely concerned for me that James just wants a green card, but those were few and far between (plus they are clearly idiots... they were worried because of 'all those Irish who sneak over here to earn a decent living'... that wouldn't have been a good move for James seeing as how the Irish economy is better then ours these days!)

My friends have been amazing throughout this whole process. They have all met Hans and his family, and they love him. They have been helping me get all of my things together and keeping me less stressed (Well, sort of)

However, these are not the friends that I had when I first met Hans 3 years ago. I was in college, and those friends are long gone. They were very jealous of what we had and couldn't understand how I could not want to cheat on him when we were apart for 6 months at a time. What can I say, either you get it or you don't!

My family are also in full support of our relationship, as they knew how I was before I met him, and how much being with him has changed my life. They can just see how good we are together.

I don't know what to tell you to do about your friends, but I know that the people who take part in my wedding will only be those who have been helpful and supportive of our relationship all the way through!!!

Good luck!

Wow! I love that saying! I think I will have to use this saying on a few people to see what their reaction is going to be.
