British birth certificate rejected by NVC, also 1099 forms required

Hi,

My DS-260 was assessed by NVC yesterday. Of all the things they might have questioned, they have rejected my British birth certificate! Does anyone have any advice? Its a scan of a an official copy of my birth certificate so I've no idea what I can do to rectify this.

They accepted all other docs, including all docs relating to the AOS, however, I had two messages, asking for "every 2021 1099 Form", for both my joint sponsor and their household member.

Can anyone tell me what a 1099 form is?

Was the birth certificate long form or short form. Did you check the visa reciprocity table?

Birth Certificate

  • England and Wales (including Scilly Isles and Isle of Wight): Available. Certificates of births, adoptions, deaths and marriages may be obtained from the General Register Office, Smedley Hydro, Trafalgar Road, Southport, Merseyside PR8 2HH, or from the local registrar's office in the district in which the birth, death or marriage was originally registered. Long-form birth certificates should be requested, as short-form birth certificates do not contain the parents' names.
  • Scotland: Available. Certificates of births, deaths, marriages and The Adopted Children's Register may be obtained from the Registrar General, New Register House, Edinburgh EH1 3YT, or from the Registrar's Office for the district in which the event occurred. Long-form birth certificates should be obtained as short-form certificates do not contain parents' names.
  • Northern Ireland: Available. Certificates of births, adoptions, deaths and marriages may be obtained from the Registrar General's Office, Oxford House, 49-65 Chichester Street, Belfast BT1 4UY or if registered before January 1, 1922, from the Registrar General, Dublin, Eire. Marriage certificates may also be obtained from the local registration office for the district in which the marriage was originally registered. Long-form birth certificates should be obtained as short-form birth certificates do not contain the parents' names.
  • Jersey: Available. Apply to: Superintendent Register, States Office, Royal Square, St. Helier, Jersey.
  • Guernsey, Sark, and Alderney: Available. Apply to: Registrar General's Office, Greffe, Guernsey.
  • Isle of Man: Available. Apply to Registrar General, General Registry Building, Douglas, Isle of Man.

Your sponsors should know what a 1099 form is. If they do not have any they should write s statement saying so....

Ah ok. So it looks like it was a short form certificate. I did so much research before submitting but didn't encounter this piece of information! I've ordered a new birth certificate from Essex county  but they didn't offer the option of short or long form. Will call them on Monday to check. Frustrating as this copy of my birth certificate has been acceptable at every other stage, including the I-130 and all stages of my wife's visa when she came to England. Well.

Do you know if this means I'm back to the back of the NVC queue? Is it another 3 month wait when I submit the new details?

Thanks for your quick response.

Probably not three whole months but end of queue, yes.  The long form birth certificate is a British thing, in that it applies to UK, Canada, Austrailia etc. as well as some US States that also will issue both short and long form Certificates.  The difference is the long form has the parents' names.

It's for passive income, or contractor income.  Interest, capital gains, etc.  Giving the actual wording of your NVC messages minus the personal information will help us give better answers.

And South Africa... we have short and long form birth certificates...

You're looking at another 75 days unless NVC speeds up or slows down.

I had a birth certificate issue doing AoS. When I ordered a new one from the UK GRO, what arrived was a long form version :)

it will be another 75 days from the date you upload the required documents. So however long it takes to get the birth certificate, and upload every W-2 or 1099 or proof of income you can think of, the US government has plenty of server space available.

I always found this so strange, I mean the fact that there are birth certificates that don't have the parents' names. I mean, what's the point then? This person really exists, was born on such and such a date at such and such a place? OK? Isn't the point to also show TO WHOM this person was born to?

Typical Birth Certificates equate to long form.  Short form certificates are issued for a separate purpose in the British Commonwealth.  Not sure why.  One thing they are accepted for is proof of age, for sports teems etc.
