Ignore that website. It is useful only if you end up waiting 6 months and need to go for big-guns help. The real average processing times (as of Feb, anyway - and the continuing service levels) is around 2.9 months.

They post that 6 month lag time processing time to cover their arses and prevent crazed phone calls from filers before things are truly delayed.

Though imperfect, VJ timelines and data are far more representative of real-life processing times.

edit to add: if you check back on that site in a month, you'll notice the date will move to about exactly one month later than it says now. Each month, move a month. It just marches along the calendar in 6 month intervals.

For the way they are raising prices on every immigration process, you would think the level of service would be better

I am right. That doesn't mean your case can't take that full time they post, but it means it isn't likely to.

As for the fees, as discussed ad naseum around the board: the fees are meant to maintain current service levels. there's no guarantee that anything will speed up. But at least they shouldn't slow down and grow the kind of backlog that used to exist.

Hi I'm kinda new to this forum and just wanted to say that since my fiance found it it has been so helpful! Reading the timescale has made me feel a bit better as I am having a nightmare trying to get all my evidence to my OH...

<rant>

I sent off my evidence, photos, G-325 etc etc over three weeks ago only to have it returned to me two weeks later with a lovely stamp from the USPS saying "undeliverable as addressed". As I have been sending things for years to the same address I was not best pleased. So I humoured them and re-addressed it and paid for it to be sent again. It still hasn't turned up a week later and while this isn't huge cause for concern normally I can see the months sliding away and our wedding is booked for February. I checked UPS for priority shipping in case it is sent back to me again and the cheapest I can get is $70 which I can't afford at all at the moment.

</rant>

So apologies if I have put this in the wrong place because I am still finding my way around and I really feel better knowing there are other people who have gone through all this and come out the other side!

Oh - I'm from the UK btw and my OH is from CA, USA.. Should have put that at the beginning :P

Oy. You're braver than I am. We have tentatively planned a religious ceremony next summer in his hometown and the a JOP thing here afterwards. Tentatively. And that's giving us a year from mail off to tentative wedding. I'm too freaked out to attempt to plan anything sooner. Good luck!

And welcome aboard. The guides and FAQs, downloads, and other people here have been a sanity saver for me.

this is really horrible. this is what you get being a citizen. our politicians are busy serving non-citizens/corporations interests and the USCIS is busy processing all kinds of visas such as H-1 visas and all. we are talking about our citizens getting marrried and having a life. there should NOT be this unjustifiabe delay for this. pl. write to your congressman and senators on this. pl. write to them and call them asking for expediated processing of K1 visa petitions. only if more us complain, something positive can come out of this. current delay in K1 petition processing is totally unfair to the citizens of this country.

again, we all should call our congressman and senators and complain about the unjustifiable delay in the processing of the K1 visas. thank you.

i strongly encourage all of us to call/write to the congressmen and senators. unless, we act together, nothing will change. current processing time for K1 visa is totally unjustifiable the citizens. also, send e-mail to "uscis.webmaster@dhs.gov". it is better to call the congressmen and the senators.

if many of us do this, i am pretty sure that we will see some movement. thanks,

I don't know if it is bravery or insanity - we are going with contingency plan number one at the moment whereby I e-mail all the scanned info I can to my OH and he sends that off and I present further evidence at my interview... the whole process is just so scary - we're also trying to beat the massive rise in cost :P $450 - boo!
