1 naturalization certificate for my twins passport applications

Hello,

I am a U.S citizen by naturalization. My twins were born abroad and came to the US when they were 2 yo. Now they are 4, and am applying for their US passports.Since they were born abroad, my naturalization certificate is their proof of citizenship, the agent where I am applying told me on the phone that I have to apply one at a time because I need to submit my original naturalization certificate with each passport application. My question is, is there any way to “link” their 2 applications together so I can submit them at the same time, or my only option now is to apply for one of the twins now and then wait until they mail back my naturalization certificate and apply for the other twin?

Do you have a U.S. passport? Maybe you can use your u.s. passport for one. Or do the twins have a CRBA?

I can not use the U.S passport, only the original naturalization certificate is accepted. I read on the USCIS website that I can submit a copy of the naturalization certificate but then read many comments that a copy isn’t being accepted to process a passport application.

The don’t qualify for CRBA, they came here on IR2 visa and got their green cards but once they’re in the U.S they’re automatically citizens because I was a citizen before they were born, this is why my naturalization certificate is their proof of citizenship.

I applied for two of mine together with just 1 certificate. We had no issues, we went to the library the lady put them together and made a note on each kid's application that my certificate was in there for both.

That’s really good to know, our appointments are tomorrow and I will try to submit both applications, this gives me some hope!

Are you sure about your U.S. passport as proof of citizenship? I used my U.S. passport when I applied for my kid's passport. I am a naturalized citizen too.

Hmm, is your kid a US born? Or was born abroad? If it’s like my case (born abroad) then may be I can try to discuss this with the agent tomorrow

Mine was born abroad too. But she has a CRBA. But even so, the passport application states that you can use a u.s. passport as proof of citizenship for parent. I never used my Certificate. I only used it to get my u.s. passport. For her l, I only used my passport.

I think the CRBA helps because the CRBA is their “proof” of citizenship, but will ask about this tomorrow also, thank you!

SORRY just read the application for passport through Naturalization. Yeah you do need the certificate. Our situation is different.

Yes I’m aware that I need it but my question was if there is a way to apply for both my twins at the same time because the agent said that I have to wait to get my certificate back and then apply for the other twin

Okay. I get what you are saying. So this is what I found if you have the time to get it done, if not I hope that they allow you to do both together with one certificate.

Here is the website to the uscis about getting a certified copy of your Naturalization certificate to send with the other application so you can do both at the same time.

Thank you, I already read this but don’t have the time to do this because our appointments are tomorrow, also because I read many comments about this not being accepted and that they solely accept the original certificate. Will try tomorrow to submit both applications and may be we get lucky and everything works out without hiccups.

I hope you’ll be successful in putting in both applications at the same time!

Something to consider for the future might be to get your children certificates of citizenship.  I know that they don’t come cheap, but just for your own peace of mind and for them to have an additional piece of evidence that they are, in fact, U.S. citizens.

Best of luck with your passport application!

Thank you so much, I submitted both applications and the supervisor attached a letter explaining the situation so hopefully both apps get accepted.

I agree regarding their citizenship certificates, will definitely do that when I get their passport.
