Anastasia had her interview yesterday, passed, and had her oath ceremony at the San Diego office.

She said it was by far the easiest immigration-related interview she's had.

:dance::dancing:🎉

WooHoo!!!!!   It is finished!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Passport time!!!!!!  My wife said she thinks the Officer asked her the 6 easiest questions on the test.

Filed on July 20 2022 with pending 751, still waiting for interview in RhodeIsland. I see many people who applied months after me are already naturalized, I'm still here waiting for an interview. Feeling very sad.

Same here. July 27 filer and impatiently awaiting an interview in Orlando. Wishing an update for both of us soon!

Hi all - I just saw online that my N400 interview is scheduled for next month. Unfortunately my USC spouse is not in the country on the day of my interview. She is a high school teacher who is leading a language department's summer trip and traveling abroad with a group of students for a week. By no means, she can either cancel her plan or reschedule it because there are 49 people in the whole group including other chaperons. I have no idea if my interview is going to end up being a combo interview with my pending I-751 or just N400. Should I be concerned that my USC spouse won't be there with me for N400 interview? What can I do to convince IO that my wife and are still married despite her not being there? I plan to take our marriage certificate, this years taxes, any bank, mortgage, etc statements. Any insight or piece of wisdom will be helpful, thank you!

When I had my N400 interview in November 2022, it was just me being interviewed (my spouse had to wait in the waiting room).

My interview was very easy compared with most of the other stages of immigration, and my case was simple as nothing had changed, we were still married, still living at the same address, everything up to date and above board and the Civics and English test were no problem.

There were still some COVID restrictions in place last year that might have been a factor in my case, but I don't think spouses are jointly interviewed for the N400. Your interview letter will make it clear who needs to attend, and if your spouse isn't mentioned in the letter then you should be fine to attend on your own.

If it's just an N400 interview, your spouse wouldn't need to be there (I wasn't allowed in for Anastasia's either).

But the original poster's I-751 hasn't been approved yet, and surprise combo interviews are not unheard of, so you should be ready for one. And for that you both should be there.

So I think I'd advise waiting as long as you're comfortable with to see if you get your 10-year green card in the mail (probably another week or two?), and then rescheduling if you don't. Which isn't fun, because it'll probably delay things for months and sometimes rescheduling requests are missed, but they can't approve the N400 without approving the I-751 first. So the absolute best case scenario for an N400 interview without an approved I-751 is that they do it and then can't schedule your oath until your ROC is approved anyway.

If the I-751 is still pending, I would advise spouse to attend the N-400 interview.  We were lucky.  Although I had already prepared for a combo interview during my wife's N-400 interview, we were notified, by separate email, 2 days prior that my presence was required.  I have seen multiple other cases in which couples were not notified prior that a combo interview would be conducted.  It would be terrible if an I-751 interview had to be scheduled later simply because the spouse wasn't there for the N-400 part.

Apologies, I missed the part about the I-751 still pending.

Amazingly I didn't have an interview for my I-751, and never had a combo interview with my spouse at any point in my visa journey. Covid may have had something to with that, perhaps clear cut applications with no issues were expedited during that period.

Obviously things are different now compared with when I went through my application. I agree that in the situation of the applicant above, they should reschedule their interview to a time when their spouse can also attend. Or at least contact USCIS and tell them the situation and ask what they recommend.

Had a combo interview yesterday. Both went smooth, great IO. Was contacted by field office to bring my spouse. My spouse went with me but the security never let her in and said if IO wants her they’ll call her. As soon as IO approached me, he asked about my spouse and I told him what security did and said. IO thought for few secs and said, “hmm okay if we need her then we’ll call her”. He went on to approve my I-751 without needing my spouse which worked out perfectly fine because my spouse wasn’t feeling well anyways. It was so weird and emotional to see my file in front of me going all the way back to all different applications we had filed over the years. All right there in one folder.
All in all, great experience! All approved and now waiting to be scheduled for oath ceremony.

i-751 —> July 2021, Potomac

n400 —> July 2022.

for everyone trying to figure out USCIS pattern, please don’t and save your brain cells. Processing is not really done in sequence and it’s sporadic. If you file N400 then sooner or later, by the time the field office reaches to process your N400, they will have to seek for your I-751 and pull that out so do as you will but just wait around with patience as your opportunity will come and don’t compare yourself to others situation, I say this from experience.

All the best to everyone on their journey!!!
