I need to get my PA learning permit. (For insurance sake, we switched companies and price for my international DL is way more and I would be stuck with this 3 years.)

I need to supply all this

? Passport,

? I-94,

? Visa,

? Social Security Card, or letter from SSA indicating that SSA did not

make a decision yet, or SSA rejection letter

? Marriage Certificate showing proof of marriage to U.S.

Citizen,

? Proof of Citizenship of spouse, and

? 2 proofs of residency.

I wonder what kind of proofs of residency to provide. Anyone has experience?

Utility bills seem to be on top of the list to be used as proof of residence. When I was applying for a car loan, lenders wanted utility bills from me too, and the only one that had my name on it was the phone bill! :o

What about the lease agreement? Official mail is good proof too, methinks.

I've just got back from doing my written test for my learner's test @ the DMV for the state of Nebraska which i passed got 100% on the written test. All i needed was my foreign passport and valid I-94. I guess it depends on which state you live in. In Nebraska if u dont have a SSN nor a Greencard then your foreign passport and valid I-94 is enough.

We used the welcome to the US letter's envelope & letter and a bank statement. Even junk mail works, though.

No, its not issue about my legal residency anymore, I got approved already, but they still want two proves about residency. Even we have good landlord, no problem in any issue whatsoever related with housing things, but seems he is silly with papers, we asked him few times to add both names together and he said, yes sure, and he never did. Well, mail I have enough, even from my chiropractic. NowIi am thinking that community college mail should work well. They treat and price different the ones who is not residents in this county.

I just need this asap, because for insurance sake I cant drive this new car.

And how about permit, you get this right away you go there with all documents?

I know I know there is phone I can call and ask everything, but I tried, and omg, this all press 4 and if so, press 6 is not for dummy me. lol

You get your permit same day if you pass the written test

The examiner never asked me for proof of my address although i had my marriage certificate with me and a letter addressed to me with my current address. All i did was fill in a data form for my learner's permit was given the test sheet with a test code on it and told to go to the computer and told to input it into the computer and my test would begin. That was it. When my test was done it said i had passed with a score of 100% and to go back to the examiner who would give me further instructions on what to do next. I walked up to the examiner with a big cheesy grin on my face because i really didnt think i would pass...i really only started studying that manual about 4 days ago  oh well, at least i achieved something i never thought possible

Just curious, when you're applying for a PA driver's license, is it necessary to start all over as if you were "learning how to drive"? As I already have a driver's license from Canada and will be bringing that with me to transfer to the PA driver's license, I think the DMV only recommends taking the knowledge test.

Well, the case is, if you are in PA (one of few states where you get not only after GC or as long as your visa is valid), you are extremely lucky, same as I, because they in PA accept foreign (At least this is what I know about Europe Union, I think the same for Canada) license for one year. So far I was OK with my foreign license here. The case is that because we switched cars and insurance, and each insurance has its own policy, i want PA DL, because it will cost fortune to keep with foreigns, and i will be stuck with this policy for 3 years. Thats the reason I rush now. Previous insurance added me as secondary driver for free, they watched only my age. But actually, if you are still there, I don't know how it is in Canada, but I could would get statement from my country, that I have not had accidents and when my DL is issued. Because insurance can be shocking.
