Your sarcasm detection skills are working to perfection, or maybe you have a decoder ring?

And don't you just love those who buy the EV's thinking they are somehow saving the planet. They don't seem to realize that the electricity they are using is most likely coming from fossil fuels.

I am proud that coal powers my Tesla.

Well, at least you were able to pre-pay about eight years worth of gas, eh?

I didn’t buy it save the world, save on gas, or all that other virtue signal stuff. I bought because I knew I would enjoy it.  Still as a patriot, I am proud that my Tesla is capable of harnessing a wider array of American made American fuels than a gasoline or diesel powered vehicle. Tesla: built by an American, for an American, using American fuel produced by an American.  With non union labor.

Just like I don’t buy business class tickets to save money or jet fuel.

Happy 4th of July, and when you see a Tesla on the road today, thank the owner for his service to keeping America great.

Well then, you are a rare breed, for sure.  I hear all kinds of reasons nowadays.  Enjoy the ride, cuz they ARE sporty!!

Cannot recall if you ever said, but which model/trim do you have?

I think most  would be Tesla or EV owners rationalize the extravagance for CO2 or cost of gasoline.  The math doesn’t work on on the latter for most as I look for a one year pay back. But give Brandon time. At $20/gallon it is definitely time to consider an EV.

Very nice, I am sure that is a fun drive.  I tested a base model 3 during covid, and the acceleration was amazing.  Can only IMAGINE what an S is like.

As for the rationalization, I agree.  I am on a truck forum that has a thread about EVs, and the rationalization there is off the charts.  Even Hunter and The Old Guy would approve!

I think you're the first one I've chatted with who says they bought it for the fun of it.  Not sure why that isn't more of a thing?  Or maybe it is, but people try to justify, though I have no idea why.  If I were to buy one, it would be for your same reason, period.

Happy 4th and thank you for your service, as always!

Not entirely rare.  EVs certainly have a performance factors that draws some customers.  Particularly Teslas where they hyped the absurd acceleration.  I did find it funny though when I saw one Tesla owner (I think it was a Model X) with the vanity plate “ZEROEM” which was obviously virtue signaling.  I expect Tesla owners are about 70/30, virtue based vs performance based with most of the performance group in the Model S.

Most hybrids I have sold have been all about the MPG. I did have 2 little hippie girls buy a Prius one time becuse they wanted to make a Statement.  Hybrid prices are having less and less gap between the and regular ICE.

The new hybrid tundra only gets 2 more MPG but has a lot more HP and Torque. Not an issue to me

absurd acceleration

We don't need a car that can go from 0 to 60 mph in 6 seconds.

What we need is a car that can go from 80 to 55 in ONE second.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I guess so.  On the particular forum where I read about guys pre-buying Rivians and such, it seems like the mix is more like 95/5.

One thing I am seeing reported in the "nearly zero maintenance EVs" is that they seem to go thru tires much faster for some reason.
