Just a quick question for a family that i'm assisting.

The father is an american citizen and just recently submitted the petition to his son in the PH (IN PROGRESS PETITION).

The son is 16 and half years old (mother is decease). Assume everything goes smoothly and the son arrives in US at age 18+, will he have to wait for 5 years before he can apply for citizenship?

Thank you

Assuming the son isn’t already a US citizen …

If son is age 18 or over upon arrival, then he can file for citizenship 90 days before the 5 year anniversary of his arrival.  File N-400.

If the son is under age upon arrival and moves in with his father, then he will be a US citizen immediately.  File for a US passport and passport card, and once obtained, file N-600
