Milenka,

There are two DHL offices in Moscow. I do not know the addresses. There is a smaller one near the embassy and a larger main office in another part of the city. While you can pay for your freight bill at the smaller one near the embassy, it is the bigger office you will have go to and request to have your visa held for pickup. And it is at this bigger office where you will pick up your package. The DHL employee at the smaller office near the embassy didn't make this very clear to my fiance when she went in to pay and request the package held for pickup...

Elena was approved for her visa! The CO was a nice women. Interview was conducted in english. CO asked Elena:

1) How did you and Ken meet?

2)Did you know about his previous marriage and ok with his divorce?

3)Does he have any children?

4)Do you have any children?

and thats it. The CO was impressed with the 'relationship book' I put together. She told Elena you are approved and you will get your visa in about a week.

Elena said there were 17 or 18 other ladies there in the waiting room with her and as far as she could tell all of them were approved.

As a side note. Elena was unsuccessful in getting DHL to hold her package there in Moscow for pickup. She went to the main office and requested they hold the package and was told that they pick up packages from the embassy at night and within 2 or 3 hours these packages are sorted and sent out for delivery. So unless she could be there during that 2 or 3 hour window she would have no luck in picking it up. I know thats a load of bull, but not much I/we could do about it. Be forewarned...

Great news!

I'm not too surprised about not being able to pick up the visa. The embassy doesn't place the visa in the passport until a few days after the interview usually, so this is very little way of knowing when the passport will be ready. My wife was able to pick hers up at the DHL office in Kyiv, but she called the embassy every day to find out if they had issued the visa. She got lucky and spoke to the woman that had just sent it off with the DHL courier.

She should just plan to go home and begin packing and saying her goodbyes.

I think the point is getting lost here...

It does not matter when DHL makes the pickup at the US Embassy or when the Visa is placed into the passport. When you purchase the prepaid DHL voucher for the shipment of the (passport) package you give them the address you want it to go to! If that address happens to be the same as the DHL office at "ZAO DHL International, 1st Tverskaya-Yamskaya str, 11, Moscow, 125047" then guess what... That's where it'll be delivered. I know "customer service" is hard to come by in Russia and it doesn't hurt to have them write on the voucher "Hold for pickup at: etc..." but guess what, You are paying for this delivery service and they better ship it to the address you give them!

Just my 2c

Here is what the label should look like if you want the package held for pick up.

(this is a copy from my voucher/airbill)

I also put an image of the package on my Moscow info page.

Cheers!

I think you are right. Had Elena just gave the main office as the 'deliver too' address I don't there would have been a problem.

Congratulations wissooner! Thanks for the encouraging report. DHL aside, the main thing is: you got the visa approved, and now can continue with your wonderful future. I hope all goes as well with my Marina the end of August. Good Luck to you :) -jordoc
