We applied for a SSN number over a month and a half ago, we were hoping it would be here within the month but still nothing.... We want to file the AOS papers, but it asks if you want a SSN given to you through the I-485, or if you already have a SSN to put it on the form.. my confusion is if I haven't received the card but have already applied, what should I put on the form? I really hate waiting and waiting for the card to arrive... Any help with this is much appreciated!!

There is no requirement to have a SSN to file for adjustment of status......Since your timeline has not been updated, it is difficult to determine when you entered the US.  If your I-94 has expired, I would file the I-485 package ASAP!

You can choose yes for both.

They won't give you a NEW SS NUMBER with I765/I485 IF you already received one prior.

They will only give you a REPLACEMENT CARD.

Check out the instructions carefully.

Agreed. That’s what I did with I-765 (at the time the old I-485 didn’t have an ssn option), I was hoping they will issue me the one with my married name to save me a trip to the SSA office. Never got my ead since I received my gc faster so had to go in person but the point is doesn’t hurt to put yes.

I applied for AOS while waiting for my SSN to be issued. At the interview I told them I got my SSN if they needed to update it in the system but they really didn't need it.

The AOS form ask if the SSA ever issued a SSN the answer was no so no need to insert the SSN and following they are asking if you want the SSA to issue one and you can just say no (that's what i did).
