Does the applicant (beneficiary) need to be employed throughout the process?

Hi there!

I am applying CR1 for my partner and just want to know if being in employment is a major factor to the visa? He filled his status as currently employed in DS260 but now as we are waiting to hear back from NVC he is thinking of quitting his job to get prepared for moving to the U.S. I don't see being unemployed will affect the visa approval or the interview, but just want to make sure, thanks!

Your beneficiary spouse's employment is irrelevant to the process.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

his job and income are only important for his him to have money to live on while he waits

quitting a job while waiting (as it could be a year after dq'd to get interview)  is not a great idea

How will he support himself?

Immigration notices advise "do not sell property"   "do not quit a job"  "do not buy a plane ticket"

all till u have the visa in hand

you are just at NVC stage/  this is still a long wait  till interview is scheduled

Thank you for your help! He does no rely on his daytime job so we are financially stable, as long as it's no issue to the application then it is fine for us.

Kind of.  Whether he REMAINS employed or not is irrelevant to the process.  However, certain kinds of employment that can be security risks, are definitely relevant.  Many people in technical fields (like the ones capable of designing rockets or bombs etc.) receive significant extra scrutiny, and those suspected of ever engaging in prostitution, tend to get denied.  Just saying, but probably not applicable in THIS case. 😉
