We're coming up on our 2 year anniversary with my wife's green card (came in from Argentina on a K1, married here, adjusted status, got green card) and are about to mail off the petition & evidence, but how do I know the exact expiration date of her current card?

On the card it says it was issued August 26th of 2005. The card's expiration date is August 28th of 2015. Nothing says "conditional" anywhere on the card. Why would they issue her a card good for 10 years if it wasn't good for 10 years afterall?

Confused.....

Thanks - Feb. 16, 2005

She entered on her K1 Feb. 2, 2005. We married two weeks later, filed to adj. status right away, had our interview in August, and the interviewer told us we would need to renew our card in 2 years (if I remember correctly). She got her card a month or so later. I never paid attention to the expiration date of 2015 until now.

I don't want to give them $275 if I don't have to!

JRSATX,

You have to. Submit an I-751 petition some time during the 90-day period preceding August 25 2007.

An incorrect card does not change or void the law.

USCIS made a mistake and issued you a 10-year green card instead of a conditional card. It happens sometimes, and unfortunately, it doesn't mean you don't have to file an I-751 to remove conditions. Your wife's PR status is conditional, because it was granted before the 2nd anniversary of your marriage, even though she accidentally got a permanent green card.

Filed AOS from F-1
Green Card approved on 01/04/07
Conditions removed 01/29/09

Citizenship Oath 08/23/12
