So My parents got their interviews done in Mumbai Consulate on May 20 for their IR5 application.

They go DQ'd on April 21. and waited for almost a year. Fast forward to today. My Dad got his passport within a week, while my Mom is still waiting on her passport since 3 weeks. Now she cannot even travel back and I have changed flights 2 times. I will have to fly back to India and pickup my son who starts school in July if there is no progress...

When I called the phone number to request a status, they just keep saying to "WAIT"

I asked if it will be a few weeks or months, the same answer "WAIT"

I asked if it is under "Admin Processing" - NO

Why the delay? - Answer was "It is under normal processing"

Not sure if they move to monthly stamping? Anyone got their interviews around the same time and facing the same issue?

This is precisely why you are cautioned by the consulate to avoid purchasing airline tickets, selling property etc before having the visa in hand.

I do know that, however I had to send them back to India from US just 2 weeks after they arrived here on Visitor visa.

I did book their return tickets looking at the flight prices over summer. No option so will be moving.

Not sure what is the maximum they will hold up the passport for.

As you should have; they obviously need immigrant visas.

They had visitor visa and have been visiting us for a few years now. The timing was so bad, they arrived and got the interview letter within a week.

Any update? I have similar situation with my Dad. My mother got her passport but my Dad's passport is sitting with them with no updates

What Country and Embassy? In my case I started calling ustraveldocs everyday... literally everyday. They kept asking me for information I sent for about 5-6 times. Until they ran out for answers and then after a month my mom's passport arrived.

As soon as you get a response from them (email) call them back.

@ankitpatelCongratulations on getting your parents passports and visa sorted out. Would really appreciate it if you can help me with some information -

My parents are DQed as of April 2022 so we have a long wait before getting the Interview letter. I am hoping to have them travel and visit us on B1/2 visa. But I am worried that they will be turned down at the port of entry for "immigrant intent". From your responses, seems like they traveled to the US on visitor visa, Could you please help me understand -

  • What were they asked at the port of entry by the immigration officer? Were they asked more questions due to their approved I130?
  • Also, any negative impact on GC application that you know of if my parents are rejected entry?

Appreciate your response very much!

My father's case is at Mumbai consulate. He gave interview at the end of June (30th) and still waiting update on passport. I check status with USTravel docs everyday and they just say passport is at embassy. They don't know anything further. However, when I check status on ceac website, status (which was updated on July 8th, 8 days after the interview) strangely shows: Ready (description: ready for interview- schedule appointment).

Any thoughts why it shows ready and schedule interview appointment when he already gave the interview on 6/30?
