Heh, that would definitely make for interesting dinner conversation! (we're pretty left of left... but you probably already know that!)

I think the "rightest" of right thinkers in Canada are still left of most "leftists" here in the US..

Just my bias though

That's my perception as well. So I should probably state that I'm left of left in Canadian terms? ;)

Tee hee.. yep that gives me a better perception :) lol!! Ahhhh ain't it grand to be a tree hugging leftie??

Add me to the left of left and the tree hugging group too! I am proud to be a Canadian and will always be. Our choice to live in the US is purely economic. The US is a wonderful country and there are many wonderful Americans - heck, I married one! - but it isn't Canada. You can take the Canadian out of Canada but you can't take Canada out of the Canadian:-).

Sometimes it's easier to bite your tongue than to be branded as a "Hippy", "Liberal" "Socialist" or a "trouble maker". Sometimes it is just turn the other way and try to walk away from the imminent car crash that will take place.

Don't believe me? Check out OT sometime :)

:P

Which is why most of us stay out of OT. ;)

But I'm like a moth to flame... :( SIGH..

My husband gives me the same advise :)

Aye, unfortunately I find it hard to stay away from OT. However, I've been pretty good about not joining in on those immature discussions...oh...um...I mean serious debates. I just read...and cringe.

Canada's economy is dependent on the US to purchase its goods.

Canada is beautiful and I can see why people from their will always love it.

I think this is an interesting point (and I don't mean this in a bad way - just about different perceptions).

Only moved to the USA has it made more sense. What my wife has her Masters in, has very little use in Canada, and me being in the armed Forces, stuck in Greenwood NS would have really killed any job oppurtunity for her. Cant say it was a economic choice to move tothe USa as we could have bought a very nice house in Greenwood, she wouldn't have had to work. But this way she gets to do work in her proper field, I got school and start over again. And since |Dec 2004 I have had it pretty mellow, lots of hockey and down time, just very little timmies, lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

The difference being.. the US doesn't realize it.. Canada knows she linked to the US economically. I'm not sure the average Joe American realizes how much they need Canadian goods (and labor).

I hate to be the one to break the trend but from my experience the only thing that defines a Canadian is the love of beer, welfare and hockey.

To be honest there really isn't any sort of spirit I hold for my home country. I am more American at heart anyway, as I am an Imperialist and someone who enjoys political action. While the US is a clusterf-k when it comes to politics, it makes more progress than Canada.

A loyal NDP market on Vancouver Island. :/

I am sure my experience is unique. I love my Canadian PEOPLE for the most part - we are the friendliest bunch I have ever met. So I have to give us credit there. :]

Heh, you're from hippie land. ;)

Actually I've only been to B.C. once for my K3 interview and we loved it. I was born and raised in Toronto but we decided that when we come back we'll settle in B.C. I've been to the east coast (NFLD) and I loved it there too.

I think we're the friendliest bunch around too. My husband thinks it's weird when I chat with Canadian government employees or people in billing or whatnot for all my old Canadian bills/accounts. I was on the phone with the EI lady and we were talking about the summer, differences in Canadian/U.S. bureaucracy, vacations, etc. He thought it was weird... I told him, that's just what we do... we're friendly and we chat!

I hate beer, don't know what I think about welfare but I work, and I don't care for hockey in the least. But I still love Canada, and was born in its capital city. :) And I'm a Canadian  even though beer, welfare and hockey don't define me in the least.

We're only moving temporarily. I have to finish school and it's most likely that my first job will be in the US-there are just more universities there. But I feel so much more at home in Canada than in the US. In the US I'm crazy left of left lefty while in Canada I just fairly normal lefty. No one in Canada talks about loosing the farm or house because they got sick. And I don't have to have bars over our windows in Canada. not going to wade into the whole American vs. Canadian beer debate I enjoy both pretty much equally.

met summer 1999, summer 2000 hooked up-whoo hoo summer fling

summer fling failed to fizzle, married 2003

I-130 mailed 12/15/03

4/1/04 no word from NE contacted senators office, app found

NOA1 4/13/04

Gave up on ridiculously long US process-started Canadian

12/4/04 submitted app

LSS app returned because of missed signatures, lost in transit, resubmitted in June

9/28/05 landed, yippie

10/4/05 fly back to US to "finish up Master's" lose mind and switch to PhD

Damn it back to the US process

3/something/2005 finally get NOA2, no idea why it took so long

4/15/07 get case approval from NVC

8/9/07 Montreal here we come

10/14/07 hubby activated his visa

I am not a born canadian, but I feel I should have...

I am a canadian by choice and I am a canadian at heart... and will always be.

I did not want to leave Canada... still I don[t - somehow I feel that somehow the faith is postponing the interview just 'cause I feel like that-

My heart is bleeding that he doesn;t want to move here;

Did yall think that ... we might loose this 'canadian spirit' ... among thegreat united states...

I sometimes fear that... and wonder if my childten will choose canada to be in///

A.

I have lived outside of Canada for just over 10 years and I love my country just as much now as i ever did. I don't ever think we loose that, but being away from home just make me love it that much more. I am very proud to be Canadian and always will be, no matter where I live
