We're planning to do the same...and my husband has never lost his Canadian spirit. I'm the USC but to be honest, I'm Canadian in my heart. The only reason he came here was because I couldn't go there because of the joint custody I have to endure with my daughter's biological father. Other than that, my daughter and I would have moved to Canada in a New York minute. :)

What's a New York minute? *curious*

Just an expression to mean "as fast as possible". :)

We chose to live in the States for financial reasons. Basically, if one of us is going to be unemployed for 6 months, it has to be the one making the least. Unfortunately, that is her. I say unfortunately because she is much closer with her family than I am, and it will be hard on her to move here. I do not make the choice lightly. Believe me, if it was possible to go there, I would do it gladly, as her happiness is worth more to me than any ties I could ever have to my homeland.

Like the others, though, our hope is that we'll be able to return to Canada someday. I'd _like_ to be able to one day have a home there and one here so we could split our time between the two countries. But that may be too expensive to be practical. Right now, I'm just focusing on what I think the best way is to start a life together.

Best of luck to the rest of you as well.

Well since I never had any Canadian spirit I don't think I lost any moving here. Canada is nice to visit once every year or so, but never having a 'canadian' identity myself, I didn't see anything changing when I moved here. In fact I felt more at home and where I belong then I did growing up in Canada.

As for others I know around here, they all seem to fit in as well and none have mentioned any desire to go back to live. Not sure about their 'Canadian Spirit" though, all I do know is the one I work with and I share the same common thing that we both can't stand hockey and would rather watch Football ha ha...

Don't you loose points for not liking hockey or something? Actually my coworker (who also married an American and is on his Green Card) and I were talking one day about how we hate when people find out where we are orginally from and ask us hockey questions. They are always so amazed that I can't stand it, never played it, but am a big SEC college football fan...

I know in many ways I have to "fit in" in this country, that sometimes i hold back my views, or have to change what I say to be more "American". It's part of what moving to a new country is.

Don't ever do this. One of the great things about the US is that you can express yourself. Say what's on your mind. Frankly thats what my country needs more than anything is more dialog on the issues. As the USC I don't ever want my fiancee to lose her Canadianism. It makes her her and is one of the reasons I love her so much.

Wiz

Sometimes it's easier to bite your tongue than to be branded as a "Hippy", "Liberal" "Socialist" or a "trouble maker". Sometimes it is just turn the other way and try to walk away from the imminent car crash that will take place.

Don't believe me? Check out OT sometime :)

My husband is like you. Can't stay away from debates... Lucky for me/us, he also shares the same political views as I do. :) Pretty much the only thing we bicker about is that he cranks the A/C and I'm always freezing! Ohhh... I hope he reads this. ;)

As an American I am very proud of my country. Unfortunately alot of Americans take for granted everything we have over the rest of the world. My wife is from Mexico and I would move there in a second to make her happy and I would be happy there with her.

The reason why so many people desire immigration to the US is because of economics and security. Canada is basically the same as the US for economics and security. Canada's economy is dependent on the US to purchase its goods.

Canada is beautiful and I can see why people from their will always love it.
