I think it is good to put this in context:

I was offered a job in Colorado under an E31 visa.

As you are all aware, this is a rather drawn out process.  The owners of the company tried at first to complete the forms themselves and it was obviously rejects as they had no idea what they were doing.  One owner claimed that his sister did this for a bank all the time.  I discovered that this was not true.

Anyway, they got a lawyer involved.  Things were going smoothly.  However, they insisted that I come over on an ESTAS visa whilst the E31 was being processed.

Deep down I knew it was a bad idea but I had already quit my job and I was committed to this new role.  It was also my dream to work in Colorado as it is world renowned for my industry - brewing.

On entering the country on one occasion I stopped at customs by ICE sent out of the country on the next plane.  I was given no ban other than not being able to use the ESTAS program again.

On going to the embassy at the final stage, a supervisor came over to the desk and asked if I had worked in the US.  I was honest and simply answered "yes".  He wasn't happy about it but the visa was granted.

I am now eligible to apply for citizenship and I am keen to do so.  I want to participate fully in my new home as a full citizen.  Also, my wife's parents are old and frail, which means that we may have to go abroad to look after them at some point, so it would be advantageous being able to leave home for a longer than usual period of time without worrying about re-entering the country and returning home.

My question is - how should I approach this on the online N-400 form?  It is the only time I have been in trouble in my entire life and since I have been in the US I haven't even got a parking ticket.

Thank you
