He needs to file as Married (MFJ or MFS)  i prefer joint for the larger deduction but this is personal  choice

the following IRS will tell him how to apply for the ITIN with his return

he needs to file a W7 for the ITIN application and a form 2555 for any foreign income to exclude any amount for u of $108,700 or under if doing MFJ

https://www.irs.gov/individuals/international-taxpayers/taxpayer-identification-numbers-tin#:~:text=You can use the IRS's,for Individual Taxpayer Identification Number.

I am so grateful for your suggested option. I will definitely check into our IRS office here and try my luck. The link you sent is very helpful. I will follow the given instructions there to acquire ITIN because at this point I couldn’t get any SSN number.

Thank you so much!!!!!! You gave me some hope🙂🙂

IRS office use to be a help like doing returns for people who had trouble(like seniors when they had to file)

they no longer do any of this

Just have your spouse follow the IRS link

its pretty basic but has to be paper filed as the online sites don't understand the ITIN and allow for scanning supporting documents like marriage certificate
