I question the accuracy of this story...... An extension letter extends the expiration date of a green card....period.  There is no reason to fear traveling with a valid extension letter and expired Green Card.

By the way when you travel with greencard you don't go through secondary inspection only if you have an extension letter then you go through secondary Inspection . Again this is new, it just started. Why do you think people will make up stories? I experienced it. I am not here to convinced anyone I am just sharing to those  who care about it..

The story you related is full of holes.......something is either missing and/or just not true as they stated in their video.  Where is the link?

Thanks.  I didn't see that.... Yes, if it is on Facebook, it HAS to be true......LOL.  I'll bet the person signed an I-407 and voluntarily surrendered their Green Card....which was a big mistake.   CBP didn't "cancel her green card".....  Like I said, some things are missing from that FB post.

Use the the date on your actual green card. That's where you have expiration date. Extension letter does not have expiration date field.

This is inaccurate.  The extension letter clearly states it extends the expiration date ON THE CARD.

As you were told in your post about your experience, it is completely normal to be sent to secondary....especially with an extension letter.  It is also completely normal to have fingerprints taken.   I didn't see anything in your thread to indicate you experienced any problems.

When I traveled out of the US with my Greencard on my way back I was never asked to go through Secondary inspection for my greencard to Reprocessed or what ever. So my experienced was not normal to me . This is the third time I am traveling back and forth and this is the only time I experience extra scrutiny. Some of us write a post post here based on expirenced we went through and not just read and tell. I don't know everything so sometime I stay mute when I see certain post especially  if I have not expirenced that situation.

You know they can randomly choose anyone for secondary inspection.  My wife has been pulled in once or twice......not a big deal to her.  Good luck.  I see no reason ,at all,  to fear or delay travel with a valid extension letter.

Entering on an unexpired Green card is a different process to entering on an expired green card or extension letter. Processes are different. Normal experiences are different for each process. And CBP

always has the right to take anyone through secondary.  That is actually the only definition of “normal” processing .. whatever CBP chooses. That is why its important to get the correct information from the correct source and to know your rights and responsibilities for the particular situation you are going through

Something is off I believe also, My wife has never been to secondary once yet when entering with her extension letter, and I have come thru different airports with her 3 times. I as a US citizen have been hauled into secondary 2 or 3 times in the 30 years I have been traveling and been given the riot act, had my phone searched, blue glove treatment all the way to having my bags torn apart. It happens and you just deal with it. I am not bringing in Kilos of narcotics or anything illegal, so I just laugh the whole time and am on my way in a few hours or when it gets close to their lunch time. I have noticed since I have been married now, and enter with my spouse now, I seem to have less issues with CBP. Maybe as a married couple they don't look as hard at you, who knows. If they check my phone they will see messages to thousands of people other than my wife, honestly by the time they got halfway thru it they would probably fall asleep with boredom.

I believe traveling with the extension letter should cause no issues, or at least in my experience. We will be using it again later this month, and in August and October of this year. So 3 more times in the next 5 months, I will post back if anything goes off the rails.

Here on a K1? Need married and a Certificate in hand within a few hours? I'm here to help. Come to Vegas and I'll marry you Vegas style!!   Visa Journey members are always FREE for my services. My husband was traveling with an extension letter from Canada to the US and absolutely got pulled into secondary and grilled because of it. The officer didn't think it was real(?) and then started peppering us with accusations that he had crossed the border and adjusted status without getting the proper visa. It was super stressful and bizarre-o because the officer presumably had access to his file in the computer he was actively looking through although I could kind of see why he might have thought the letter was dodgy.

This was over a decade ago. It's not new lol.
