F2 visa files ds 160 not I 130

its a non-immigrant visa

your timeline says a I 130 form was sent

The first step to apply for an F-2 Dependent Visa is completing Form I-20A-B (Certificate of eligibility for Non-immigrant Student Status). If you are submitting your petition from a U.S. Consulate, you must also file in Form DS-160 (Non-immigrant Visa Application).

I presume OP means F2A or F2B.

Op, which F2 specifically should  you be? It’s a confusing mistake because F2 is unmarried child of lpr (a or b depends on age) and f3 is married child of usc. Would be a pretty unusual mistake for uscis.  What does the i797 receipt notice say?

The i797 say unmarried child over 21 but when at nvc I saw visa class F3 and when I mentioned f2 I was talking about F2B

Strange. If the petitioner hasn't naturalized as a USC and you are currently not married you should not be in F3 category. You need to contact NVC to resolve this ASAP.

just confirming : you didn’t get married and parent naturalize while you’ve been waiting, right ?

Contact NVC to get it straightened out.

Have you ever heard of something like this happening to someone else

You need verify the questions above so we can ascertain.

* Has the petitioner (your parent) naturalized as a USC?

* Have you married since the petition was filed?

Yes my mother is now a USC and no I am not married

Did you apply to retain F2B rather than move to F1, which is over 21 single child of USC?

it sounds like possibly the category was changed when they were notified your mom naturalized but accidentally chose F3 instead of F1. You can retain F2B with its better priority date, but you have to apply to do so, that’s not automatic.

Since your mom is now a US Citizen and you are not married, then your previous F2B category is automatically converted to F1 (Unmarried Sons and Daughters of U.S. Citizens). Now there are a couple of things you need to do ASAP.

*You need to contact NVC to have your category corrected. It should not be F3.

*Secondly, this is the most important step. When you contact NVC, tell them even though your mom is now a USC citizen you wish to maintain your old category (F2B) which will be to your advantage since you said your priority date is already current in that category. Otherwise, they'll assign you F1 category which won't be beneficial to you.
